Thoughts on soy for men? Does drinking and eating soy turn you into a soy boy? A low testosterone joke? It has high protein though. I love Almond Milk, but it's so low in protein.

I worry about turning into a soy boy.

Last I recall, it's all about quantity, but there is something or other (half dozen things depending on who you ask?) in soy that is another reason not to eat a ton of it.

Depends. The Chinese and other Asians have been consuming soy products since almost forever. They don't have any issues with it. Of course that could very well be the way they produce such foods.

^ Or their standards and government intervention prevent exposing the detriments?

There's all kinds of oriental carp I wouldn't consume, including food I know came from that region... like fish.

Well in regard to soybeans, foods made from them using traditional methods are just fine to eat.

The best Soy Sauce for EX is made by fermentation and brewing.

If you are worried about becoming a "Soyboy", eating Soy is the least of your problems.
I don't know about you, but I would like to try someNatto, Tempha, and Fermented Soybean Paste. Maybe even Stinky Tofu.

I've also noticed that Silk soy milk is creamier than Almond Breeze Almond milk. I usually get the latter though since they are often 5 for $10 at Krogers. Like someone else mentioned I think it's more about the quantity you eat.

Nutrition Facts has a bunch of info on soy that include links to studies. https://nutritionfacts.org/?s=soy

I bought Silk vallina flavored soy milk a while back and couldn't get past the beany taste. No thanks, I'll stick with real milk instead.

That was my...limited...understanding. So apples and oranges with what happens in the US.

The thought of soy milk used to gross me out. I wouldn't even use 1% milk. I never really drank milk by itself as an adult. I only used it to add to a recipe or cereal. Now I just use plant milk for my oats, smoothies and for some recipes. They say your tastes buds change when you start eating plant based and I would have to agree that it's true in my case.

I'm fine with drinking real milk, whole milk that is.

I would be on the soy train if it didn't destroy my stomach after eating it. I like most of the soy products I've tried

i have been drinking soy all my life.
it has never decreased my libido. wanting to have sex every day with wife, twice a day. and we've made 3 boys.
who knows, maybe without drinking soy, i would want to do 10 times a day and made 100 boys by now.

Extrapolating your original figures, if you went ten times a day, that would only be 15 boys.

Soy is a cheap source of vegetable protein.

I'll stick with apples and oranges. Have been eating almost no soy for quite a while. I eat teriyaki beef a fair amount, which has soy sauce. That's about it. No tofu, soy milk, soy fillers, soy protein products. I used to make soy tempeh but haven't for 30+ years.

Adding soy to your diet is generally considered a good idea. It is both protective in hormone driven cancers (breast and prostate) and is a good source of protein.

You might as well ignore soy sauce as the main issue there is sodium, very little soy per serving compared to eating a single veggie burger or tofu, etc.

What about soy based sexual lube?? I'll bet you guys got lots of experience with it.

H&F is not OT. There is no place for lews and unhelpful comments here.

I used to make soy tempeh in my kitchen, having bought a couple things:

1. The Book of Tempeh

2. A piece of fresh tempeh at a local health food store to use in the generation of my initial starter spores.

Not too hard to do and keep going. A really cheap and healthy source of protein and a cool project.

Yeah, if you want to know about tempeh, The Book of Tempeh is a terrific way to find out.
