"There's no such thing as soy milk. It's soy juice. But they couldn't sell soy juice, so they called it soy milk. Because anytime you say soy juice, you actually...start to gag. Know how come I know there's no such thing as soy milk? Because there's no soy titty, is there?" - Lewis Black

Any fluid derived from soybeans, almonds, rice or whatever is about as close to milk as fluid derived from a bull.

milk != "milk"

I drink it every day.. but never by itself. I get the unsweetened one at Trader Joe's and blend it with some frozen berries and a couple scoops of protein powder for breakfast every morning.

Interesting this topic came up as yesterday I was doing some research on dairy.

Look here.

I know to take everything with a "grain of salt" but... still.

A little bit of background: I have had acne of one sort or another since i was 14. I saw countless doctors, tried ever med (besides Accutane) out there, OTC and scripts. NOTHING seemed to work. About a year ago, I went to another dermatologist and he said stop drinking milk. I thought he was a quack, but because I did not want to go on Accutane, I decided it could not hurt to try. Sure enough, within two months, all acne was gone. It was amazing... espeically since I did not change my diet in any other way. I also stopped taking all persecription meds too.

Why would you link us to a lunatic organization?

I agree and would never listen to them. Their assertion that cow milk does not help protect bone loss is incorrectly argued and without facts to support their argument. The fact that there are low levels of Vitamin D in milk is why it's ineffective to prevent bone loss directly. Fortified milk contains only about 100 IU of Vitamin D for each cup at best. You'd need to drink a quart to get the recommended dietary dosage of calcium (which is way too low any way), so of course people aren't going to be able to absorb all that calcium. Get some sunlight with UVB rays and eat some fish, mushrooms or supplement to keep your Vitamin D level high, and then you can absorb the calcium and enjoy your fatty, high calcium foods. Eat that dumb Harvard vegans!

Straight from the National Institute of Health
"Vitamin D is essential for promoting calcium absorption in the gut and maintaining adequate serum calcium and phosphate concentrations to enable normal mineralization of bone and prevent hypocalcemic tetany. It is also needed for bone growth and bone remodeling by osteoblasts and osteoclasts. Without sufficient vitamin D, bones can become thin, brittle, or misshapen. Vitamin D sufficiency prevents rickets in children and osteomalacia in adults. Together with calcium, vitamin D also helps protect older adults from osteoporosis."
