Southwest sucks. I would not miss that shitty airline if they just disappeared from the face of the earth. This is just another reason not to fly them, in addition to loud and obnoxious kids and families going on vacation once a year, many of whom have no concept of flying etiquette.

I feel safe flying with UA/CO.

Lemme guess... you prefer monster cable too?

I do hate Southwest for making seating a free for all clusterfuck. Virgin America is the way to go. Click on the seat you want as you book. Done. WTF is the point of making me check in on my phone 24 hrs in advance? I mean half the fliers are regulars who auto checkin anyway. So even if you check in 18 hrs in advance, you're usually Group B by then. Dumb as shit.

United has an average fleet age of 13.5 years, Southwest has an average fleet age of 14 years, so they are about the same. However, it is impossible to drive past BFI on I-5 and not see one or more shiny new 737's waiting for final paint, finish, testing and delivery.

Southwest has 107 737's waiting for delivery, United has 25 airframes (with Boeing at least) outstanding.

Sure about that?

United Airbus lands safely after smoke, electrical issues in cockpit

I highly recommend everyone reads the transcript between the cockpit and tower, everyone did an amazing job. Personally I would rather be in the Southwest 737 in this thread than the United A320. Fire/smoke+electrical failure more scary to me than the rip in the 737, but thats just me.

Both crews seem to have done an excellent job at handling their respective emergencies however.

If you board a Southwest plane early, can you hold a seat or seats for your companion(s)?

The Southwest website does not seem to prohibit it.

Depends, if you try and hold a bulkhead seat...no. Somewhere else, probably .
