this is either pridiction/dream/idea....... ps3 adds more ram!

The Wii U has apeared and the next xbox beyond 360 is rumored to be seen soon. PS3 assumed it will last another decade and rumored to be future-proof, the console has huge overhead gap that can take on future games but just that right now most 3rd party game makers did not take the power to the max yet. Look at killzone 3 and uncharted and God of War 3..... so mouth watery. and ofcourse dont forget the huge size capacity of data storage of the blu ray disc! plus scratchless! nobody uses scratchable disc these days except for xbox!

PS3 is future-proof.... powerful cell processor and gaming gpu nvidia but only down side is low amount of ram. So what it will do to compete with the next XBOX and the Wii U? Nothing! but just double tripple (six times the amount of ram it already has) and all other part of the hardware uses the same.

The new model will named PS3 Ultimate... same weight as the slim, improved even more flow of heat reducing ylod, slight cosmetic redesign, and double tripple the ram! retail price at only 169.99!!!!!!

PS3 Ultimate competes with the Wii U and the next XBOX.

ps. .......or the ps3 will be named PS3 Ultra. nvidia usually name their most poweful card Ultra... i,e 8800 Ultra, 6800 Ultra and since Nvidia is inside a ps3... it would be cool for sony to use the name Ultra too!

If it was to be tried, the next would be the game for all time against the current standard of the machine by all means. To be aware the final test of graphics will take another step by the way of future thinking! If there is advice as smart does, telling us is as the line to be crossed.

WTF?

First of all, "double tripple [sic]" is sextuple. Use the right word.

Second, are you really touting scratchless media as a winning feature for a console? How the heck are you handling your game discs if that's a real concern of yours?! I don't think I've EVER scratched an Xbox 360 DVD. Could one be scratched? I suppose, but then again I'm not a child who throws his toys around the room.

A souped up PS3 would be nothing but a repeat of the Sega 32X and we know how well that went. In case you weren't around then, it flopped miserably and was one of the nails in Sega's coffin.

I thought the 32X's problem was that it didn't really offer anything different. I recall renting one from Blockbuster, and the games were still in 2D, but were slightly better. There was this Sonic game where you were tethered to another player that you could toss around in a game that now seems almost like something you'd find on a smartphone today.

The problem is that simply adding RAM isn't going to make the PS3 a more potent system. Yes, the fact that RSX only has 256MB of VRAM available to it is a large hardware limitation, but that isn't going to also erase the fact that the RSX is based on... I believe the GeForce 7000-series, and nVidia has already released an 8000-series, 200-series, 400-series and now a 500-series. There were a couple steps in-between as well (9000-series, 300-series).

Silly.

The PS3 was always supposed to be some beast of a machine, but at the end of the day, games on it looked/ran no better than they did on the 360... oftentimes marginally worse.

I don't care if the PS3 is Watson in a shiny black shell... it's not going to out perform the next Xbox.

The 360 has a more powerful GPU, while the PS3 has a more powerful CPU. Unfortunately, any advantages cancel out. AMD GPUs during that era tended to offer better image quality.

Throwing more RAM into the PS3 would help but only to a point. The CPU and memory are still bottlenecked by the GPU. Keep in mind it's based on the Geforce 7800. It's five generations old at this point.

To put it into perspective, in the real world, today's top nVidia GPU is roughly 7-8x faster than the generation that came out after the PS3's. I used Call of Juarez because it's available on consoles.

What if they took out the innards of the PS3 and swapped it with a V8 engine? Think of all the horsepower it would have then.

there isnt a xbox exclusive ive seen that can compare to uncharted, the games are always designed towards the 360 if they are multiplatform.

The ps3 is by far the superior machine this round in terms of graphics but if you dont have the support then the graphics mean shit.
