When I listen to a sound file in WMP everything is fine unless I fast forward by draggin the slider furtherinto the file. Then the volume goes to a very high level?????

I had this problem before after I installed sp2 for XP. A forum member suggested I unistall/reinstall my audio drivers and it fixed the issue at that time.
The problem is I have had this install for several weeks and have made no changes to my system at all.
So before i unistall/reinstall, is there any other way to try and remedy this issue?

thanks.

Is it every sound file, or just some? What it sounds like is DRC -- Dynamic Range Control. This is a big problem with some AC3 playback filters, as they have this enabled by default, and halfway through the file you find yourself having to turn up the volume to hear. Then, if you fast forward, the sound jumps up, if only for a bit.

I'm not sure what exactly would be causing this, but check any audio playback filters you have installed, like Matrix Mixer or AC3 Filter.

I have tried it on several mp3's and it does the same. Volume jumps up drastically and stays there.
This is on a pretty fresh install of XP pro. I haven't installed any audio codecs seperately. The last thing I installed was Power DVD. You think that could have done something?

Honestly, I've never heard of anything like this. Don't know what to tell you man.
