Sorry, wrong title about FX, plus incorrect info from Tom's

According to Tom's Hardware, AMD has released the FX8130 at $101.00.

3.8base/3.9turbo. Seems like a very attractive price, although the TDP is still rated at 125 watts. I dont really understand why a "quad" core at lower clocks has the same TDP as the 8350 an eight core at higher base clocks and turbo, while the A10 with an igp has a lower TDP.

No performance figures either, but seems like an interesting option at the price. I would expect it to trade blows with the i3, losing in lightly threaded but probably better in milti-threaded at least some of the time.

How is the 8130 a quad core while the 8350 is an 8-core?

Could you link the article you're talking about? Too lazy to google.

Is this a bulldozer? The 81XX were BD and the 83XX are PileDrivers.

Also maybe they mean 4 modules?

It strikes me that AMD's "modules" are not just of dubious value technically, but are a pretty bad idea from a marketing perspective.

Tom's article is about a 4130 which "has just been released". I believe both OP and Tom's have either misquoted or pulled an early April's fools.
The 4130 has been released back in August '12, perhaps AMD will release an 4330 but then the quoted 3.8/3.9 Gnz wouldn't make much sense compared to the 4300 with 3.8/4.0 Ghz...

I just meant that in an era where everyone is talking about "cores", they create something that's "not really two cores but not really one either". This gives them an advantage, in a way, in that often a module is counted as two cores, but it also basically puts an "asterisk" next to all discussions of what's actually on the chip. It's also rather confusing.

Looks like Tom's and the OP are correct.

Although it was detailed back in August last year, AMD has just now officially released its new "affordable" Vishera based FX-4130 quad-core socket AM3+ CPU.

I think he meant FX4130

Yea, sorry. I was not trying to belittle the processor. I actually think it is a good price, but I put the quad in quotes because it really competes with intel dual cores, not quad cores.

Anyway, I mean the new PD dual module part. Guess I should post so early before I am awake!!

Edit: now I am confused too. Maybe Toms had the wrong model number, but they said it was a newly released PD quad core, dual module, however you want to say it.

You can change the title if you go into advanced edit... it'll save us all some headache down the line.

If the model name starts with the 8 then it is eight core(or thread if you like).
So this one is FX4130 after all,a cheaper Bulldozer based CPU.
I don't know why they call it FX4130 and say it is Piledriver. Vishera(PD based FX) models are having number 3 as a second digit in their model name while 1st gen BD parts have 1. So a proper model name would have been FX4330 if such model existed(it does not exist).

This is a real spec of FX4130:
http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Bulldozer/AMD-FX-Series%20FX-4130.html
This is Piledriver based FX4300 that was supposedly already launched back in Oct(for OEMs) :
http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Bulldozer/AMD-FX-Series FX-4300.html

Next in line for FX43xx series is FX4350:
http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Bulldozer/AMD-FX-Series FX-4350.html

Next to much faster PD based FX43xx series I doubt many informed customers will opt for this older, slower and hotter part.

People not in the know will think this is a step down from the 4170 that is based on the original Bulldozer. Does AMD want more sales of the 4170 to clear inventory?

And Newegg's page has a Zambezi 4130. Just what the hell is going on?

Read my post above :). It IS Zambezi core, THG is wrong (not surprising :D).

It's based off of Piledriver
No it's not ;). This supposedly "new" part is an already launched BD based FX41xx model. I have no idea who writes articles on Xbit(thanks for info Torn) and THG but it seems they have no clue and are prone to "news fabrication" on slow news days

Anton Shilov, their regular news editor, wrote the article, and some of the other tagged news articles in the Piledriver section.

He also mentioned the old 4130 being introduced last August. http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/cpu/display/20120827114451_AMD_Slashes_Microprocessor_Prices.html

AMD's own chart says it's "1%" faster than the FX-4100. I hope for their sake that it's not a Piledriver. :)

CPU World says this launched last August? Confusing.

Contrast to this from the Xbit article:

amd_fx_positioning.jpg

Maybe they updated the core and didn't change the model number? Could they be that stupid?
