Read again...PAST AND PRESENT. Colonialism and slavery (among others) are institutions which affect generations upon generations. To dismiss them as "the past" is naive and ignorant.

Morocco: 1953
Algeria: 1963
Ivory Coast: Still happening

Ever heard of this guy, ummm, what was his name? Ah yes, Gandhi.
Read up on your history before you come spouting FALSE facts.
OK, re-think what you just said. Is India about to attack Britian TODAY? No, they did it and gained freedom years ago. Is Africa lining up to kick France's ass TODAY? No, that was years ago. Does America have any colonies in the Middle East TODAY? NO!
And if you want to talk slavery and that horrible reparations plan...fine. No one in the history of my family EVER owned slaves in the US. We weren't even IN the US during the slave period. Why, then, should I pay for it? Moreover, in the history of the world, every group has been enslaved at some point. Greece isn't seeking reparations from Italy for the enslavement by the Romans. Hell, the Chinese aren't seeking reparations from the US for the virtual enslavement in the building of the trans-continental railroad.
Yes the past affects the present. But if you spend all your time dwelling on the past, you'll never get anywhere.
