With 7000 miles on it, I hope its broken in already.
Oops, I missed that.

Did you post above about what you're doing with your jetta? If so, just answer yes ( :) )and I'll check it out, otherwise, it's over in October, right, what are you doing until then?

Nice car. I couldn't deal with that gas mileage, but if you have a 3 mile commute I'm sure it's doable.

Car is at my brothers house in NJ. He is fixing little things for me, and I have the lease return inspection on Monday. Hopefully I can turn it in Monday afternoon, or early Tuesday morning.

Once it's gone and I know how much wear and tear I'll have to pay -- I might start looking at little things for this car.

then you should just buy a C6 to begin with. 2005 models are going for ~$25k.

That's true, but nobody is ever surprised that a Vette is fast :)

A 9-second RX-8 would raise some eyebrows and possibly fill some shorts.

Congrats but weren't you the one having a problem with vandals on your street? Or I may be confused.

If he did have problems with vandals does it automatically mean you are not confused or is that issue still up for question?

It would be one thing that I wasn't confused about, if it's the case, and I would be able to reference back to this point in time to prove my lack of confusion. I think.

Nice. I drove one for a lap on a mini course for a Mazda event outside a shopping centre. Handled well but I enver got out of 2nd gear due to the tiny track, but I had fun.

My mate also bought an 04-06 one, looks awesome!

Nice ride AMD. I'm surprised it eats that much gas with a 1.3 under the hood. It is making 230hp though which is pretty impressive for the displacement. Maybe this is just a characteristic of a wankel?

As far as resale value goes, it may drop right now, but I think you'll see it go the other direction in the next ten years if you keep the car that long. It's the R3 model which will be more rare than the others and it's a rare car to begin with. I would think these would become collectors items. The one thing that Mazda should have done was put a turbo on the R3 variant.

Well, can you blame them really? Who wouldn't vandalize a yellow VW?

Hell, if I was walking by and spotted the OP's ex-yellow Jetta and I happen to have have a marker in my hand at that point, I would have spontaneously drawn the Walmart smiley on the back...or maybe Marge Simpson's face on the hood...something badass like that, cause that's how I roll!

You sound, er, a tiny bit confused. Not too much, though.

It is. In fact 1 liter of that 1.3 is actually dumped literally into the atmosphere on every revolution :)

I wouldn't do the same but I respect it.

My uncle has or had a yellow GTI. My family made fun of him a bit. I thought it was ok, though, because I am an attention whore. Now, you wouldn't know that with my post count, but it is true.

Depreciation is awful. My friend has a fully loaded 04 GT model w/Navi in absolute mint condition, and they only offered him $8900...ugh.

I kinda really took into consideration that, since the car is discontinued, I don't have to worry about a newer RX-8 taking away the looks from this one. :) I really believe in a few years time, these cars will be highly sought after for being a cheap RWD car - kinda like how everyone gets AWD/RWD Eclipses from the 90s. Super cheap to buy, and a ton of fun. :)

with a rotary engine, i doubt it.
no one knows how to work on one, they burn oil and are horrible on gas.

i'd be looking at a miata before an RX-8.
s2k is a much better alternative.

Nice car no doubt, congrats! This should keep you happy for a while. But I am curious, what did you cross shop this against? Also, if this is the style of car you like, why where you leasing a GLI?

BTW Eclipse where FWD / AWD.

he was referring to when he drives the eclipse in reverse.

How are you breaking it in?

I looked at the gov fuel economy site. I think your gas estimates are probably pessimistic, which is good. It's bad on gas but I think you'll average better than 10-13 unless you constantly drive it like you're racing :)

he's not exaggerating. i was looking at rx-8's when they first came out and owners were getting 13/18mpg. i think there was a revision that bumped it up to 15-17mpg local and low 20's hwy.

Why is that car so shit on gas?

My VQ35 will get around mid-upper 20's hwy if I'm light footed.

There was a lady who parked next to me that constantly dinged my door when she got in and out of her car -- she sold her car and no longer uses the spot. The new guy there is a young guy like me and hates to ding his own car. :)
