pr0n built the internet, right? or at least, funded it's development into a commercial space.
No. Have you ever seen porn ads on any reputable website?
selling advertising space is a quite recent way of making revenue (on the internet). cast your mind back to before google came on the scene.
I've been using the Interent since about 1994. I remember a time when there were no ads on the Internet. There also wasn't a whole ton of content like there is today. I watched the Internet explode - it exploded with ads, and it exploded with content. The explosion in ads paid for the explosion in content.

No, advertising is not a recent way of making revenue, and citing Google just makes you look clueless. Google's text-based ads may be a relatively recent trend, but banner ads existed long before Google ever did.

and yes, I have seen porn ads or ads for porn sites on reputable web sites, particularly gay news web sites.
Let me know when you see them on cnn.com.

OK, I'm tired of hearing this nonsense about porn deciding the winner of Blu-Ray vs HD-DVD.
Plug your ears? Porn is a $10-$14 billion industry. If I was inclined, I'd rather rent a DVD for a few bucks than sit for hours on my computer to get the same amount of ummm.. footage.
Guys buy pr0n + guys buy most electronics = HD-DVD teh WINNAR!

And so we see the downfall of bluray.
Sorry bub, but there's billions of dollars that prove that plenty of people pay for porn, not everyone is an internet nerd. The fact is that porn is a huuuuge part of the dvd industry, and my guess is that it will have an impact on the success of these formats. Another blunder in a long line of blunders from Sony.Originally posted by: mugs
OK, I'm tired of hearing this nonsense about porn deciding the winner of Blu-Ray vs HD-DVD. Not going to happen. It may have helped VHS, but VHS didn't have competition from Internet porn. Who pays for porn nowadays anyway? VHS and Betamax were also fighting to be the FIRST home video format, not the fourth generation. DVD is still alive and well, and frankly it's more than sufficient for porn.
Early adopters will decide which format wins. I think early adopters care more about real movies that can really take advantage of HD resolutions than about porn.

mugs is a mug. a moron who can't 'handle' reality.
honest, open-minded people here will acknowledge the historical relationship between the success of new technologies (like vhs, video cameras, etc.) and pr0n. if history is any guide whatsoever, we can predict that availability of pr0n will be one of the important factors driving hd-dvd to success.

Porn was definitely the reason I got on the internet back in 1991 using dialup to get on the Porn BBS. I even paid $300 for a lifetime membership to a porn BBS.
That's right, I LOVE MY PORN!

Wow, thanks for the news! Thank god I didn't buy a PS3 because the only reason I would have bought it for was to watch PRON.
No pron = you lose to HD DVD.
