SONY PS2 issue.

Listen! What game is it?
If Sony don't make it then why on earth would they replace it? Did you call the game maker/publisher?

Unless it is a Sony published game, then thats like asking why Dell won't replace your copy of Tribes 2!

The game is Dark Cloud, my son's one and only game.

$300 for the console, $50 for the game, a few free scratches, all equal one Dark Screen.

Are DVDs more susceptible to scratch damage than CDs?

So you're saying that of all the DVD's they pressed of Dark Cloud, they wouldn't have a few extra they could use for this type of situation for a few customers? I'm sure they've looked to sell a good million of this game, but who is to say they will?? Surely they've got a couple extra.

Sony as a whole sucks so expecting anything from them is out of the question. But since your son damaged the disk himself, I don't see any reliability upon Sony or the game publisher.

That sucks. I think any company should offer a policy to replace a disc like that. CDs/DVDs cost little to produce themselves, you don't pay for the disc, you pay for the content. If you've already paid for the content then why shouldn't they be kind enough to replace it. They probably still make a little bit of money anyway, it dosen't cost $10 to make and ship a DVD. Oh well, Sony sucks, its a well documented fact.

I think i can understand why they don't replace discs b/c kids generally treat discs badly and they would be spending a lot of resources on an exchange program if they had one. I think if most kids new they could exchange discs anytime they'd treat them worse

I agree with ZapZilla, he has already paid for the overhead of development, marketing, duplication etc. once for this game, why wouldn't they want to reward a paying customer by replacing his disk at or just above their cost? Sounds to me like it would be a win-win policy.

It like if you scratch the screen on a Game Boy, they don't make you buy another console you can just buy the screen.
