Sony is starting to scare me!

It started with the jointly developed cell processor (omg i cant spell that...help) and its truly a sight to behold. From what i gather it can max out at 4.6ghz. While i Know clock speed means nothing (2.6ghz FX55) but the cell running at 3.2ghz is unlike anything else before it. So imagine what the full power is capable of...

The ps3 itself is also scary. From the numbers and features going around it trumphs the xbox 360 in every way and form (maybe not shape, george foreman grill anyone?). But all jokes aside its simply a technological masterpeice.

But thats not what caused me to post this..er..post. In the newest issue of GameInformer magazine it has a small article of sony controling your brain. In it it tells how sony is patenting tech that beams sensory info such as tastes an images into your brain. :Q

Anyone else find this disturbing?

Yeah, some of the stuff that they have on there is downright scary. But it'll be worth it once it makes its way to PC.

Can anyone tell me how it is possible for Sony or Microsoft to pack this much SH*T into a box and charge $400 and make money?! It doesn't seem to make any sense.

Much hate for Sony... The reason they can afford the R&D necessary to be where they are is an MO of overpricing low quality products that are built to break :frown:

not sure about brakeing, but i dont like how everything sony is propretary. just use damn SD cards and mp3 format and stop overcharging me 50% for one of your crappy Viao pcs. I wish they just werent so greedy in their business practices.

Interesting, I read the M$ has higher bandwidth and more shaders... IMO if cell was really a revolutionary processor, it would have been trumped on the PC market a while ago.

I don't even know if I'm going to buy a PS3 or Xbox 360 or a Nintendo. I've moved so far into PC gaming that I dunno if console gaming can have me back.

They don't. They both lose money for every unit they sell in hope to make up in software sales. Like cell phones -- sell hardware at loss to make $$ off service.

True but the technology is brand new. IBM is going to use it in their severs... And it probably will come to desktops eventually as well as moblie phones due to size... its sonys answer to everything 😛

Sony/IBMs cell proc couldnt handle the loads of a computer, weird as it sounds - i know a guy who interns at IBM that worked on this processor. So I had the inside scoop for a while =/

cell originally was to gather processing power from other objects that used cell computing as well. i called shens the day i heard it! 🙂
multi-core is just the next step in the CPU market, and the cell happens to have software that's super optimized for it, unlike pc's... that's why it seems so great

oK os could it still be used in a desktop setting, if the system was configured right?
I meant if the hardware was speacilly designed for the cell...not plop it in in a regular mobo...

aside from ATRAC3 and memory stick, i think sony is pretty slick.

Agreed, but now many of their MP3 Players work with MP3s now rather than just atrac with a firmware update.

SONY's business model is to take electronics, put them in a classy package, add a few doo-dads that require you to buy more attachments and gadgets from SONY to use, and then sell it at 25% higher than everyone else's product.
