How the hell is Sony a much larger company? Microsoft's raw CASH > Sony's Market Value, the last time I recalled.

you have to add debt load to market cap to get when the market thinks is the going concern value of the company.

for example, GM's market cap is something like $25 billion. but they have like $250 billion in debt. so their going concern value is $275 billion.

You're doing your calculations wrong but i'm too lazy to explain how...

don't bring up sega, its been done to death. sega was limping badly from all their string of bad decisions, they were a small company with no cash reserves and so quickly went under. they are no way comparable to microsoft with its huge resources to back the xbox.

It's just a point.

Xbox is no where near popular in Japan/ Asia. The Xbox360 is tanking in the Asian Market.

Lots of cash reserves hasn't helped the Xbox in Japan where it has been selling pathetically. It should be selling more as it is a decent console but it just hasn't caught the Asian gamers minds.

Who says Sega was limpng with the Saturn or the DC?

Sony is going to tank unless it can do an online service that isn't ass. Xbox Live is seriously well put together and integrates really well with Live games. Sony needs that. Not the assed effort on the PS2 :(.

It will be interesting to see what Sony come up with. It really isn't looking like they are going to do something decent with an online service. I haven't heard much about it.

I disagree with you about online play. It didn't hurt sales with the PS2, and it won't with the PS3. I might be in the minority, but I liked the way online play was handled on the PS2. I still don't get why so many of you have a problem with it.

Indeed. But the lack of Japanese gamers getting the Xbox and Xbox360 (so far) isn't looking good. It may never take off in Japan for some reason.

Within 3/4yrs we will be able to see who is more 'popular' but I don't care. As long as the games I 'want' are on the console(s) I have I don't care. I could afford both if I wanted it for one game as I'm no longer a student :p. I will just get both if the games I want are on both.
