I would hardly consider my Acura Legend an econobox but that's just me. I'd much rather drive that than a Grand Marquis and I'd take an econobox over a boat anyday :D

Yeah, I'm sure he'd rather have this.

Onery,
No, Eclipse didnt cover the damages to my car unfortunately. However, a junkyard quickly gave me the parts I needed. ;)
I was pretty happy just to have to pay a few hundred for the dash and repairs and get another 500 dollar HU for free. :D

He certainly wouldn't since he has you as a Dad! :D

I can just imagine you riding around on your riding mower with its nearly new overpowered Briggs engine, grumbling about the rice rockets and econoboxes lining your street... Heheheheh.. ;)

The thing would have probably been taken anyway. This way they save themselves new locks and/or windows.

Or they may have not even bothered and gone next door to steal the neighbor's stereo. Nothing like making it even easier for someone to rip you off.
If his neighbor had a stereo they'll have taken it as well.

OK Skoorb, whatever you say. I guess you suggest people leave their windows and house doors open and unlocked also, because locking them would just mean they would have to be replaced as well as all the crap in their houses, right?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=39752&item=3089230747&rd=1

a lot better than that aiwa one and a good value for a deck with mp3 capability

That's Ikesound.com....forgot to include them....scala is a good guy as well, I think if you go through ebay it works out cheaper *if* no one else bids.

Å
Is that better than the ones in the list I have up there? Not too keen on screwing with Ebay.

Interesting point, though.

A rattlesnake under the seat, or in the glovebox, is an option too...

Now now, you may be a hardass when it comes to cars, but don't do it with eBay too. If you actually look, eBay is a very valuble resource with some pretty good prices on a lot of things.

If you're *really* concerned, just stick to people that have thousands of transactions and 99 - 100% feedback. ;) Feel free to ask the seller questions before you buy.

If you're a smart buyer, you really can't go wrong. :)

Ain't getting that for the same price I paid. The '89 would be, though. Not as safe, or cheap to fix either, and I'm the one who does the repairs, and am responsible for his safety.
I never said that you should get your son an Acura, I just said that I would not get him a boat. I'm sure there are at least a few more options besides the Grand Mariquis. I only brought up my car because you just had to assume that I was driving an econobox and my opinion on boats was null and void.

here we go.

check out
http://www.crutchfield.com to get a general overview on products on the market.
then go and look for prices over at
http://www.ikesound.com
http://www.sounddomain.com
http://www.thezeb.com
http://www.etronics.com

and when you install the head unit this time use security screws which will deter theft a decent amount.
they can be found at http://www.partsexpress.com

also, i am assuming that the grand marquis has airbags. if it does not, neglect this next statement.
and airbags wire is covered in yellow heat shrink.
go to your local auto store, buy some yellow electrical tape (might not be at the auto store, maybe online onle)
cover every wire from the headunit in yellow electrical tape as far as you can see.
then bundle the wires together, tape them in about identicle sizes as the yellow airbag line. then put a colored mark on every set of wires.
I.E. red, green, blue are for the radio, purple is the airbag. now run the wires as hidden as you can over to the airbag area, and then have them visible. make the marks in the area near the air bag.

now if you want to get serious. go for alarms, but that isnt necessary from what you have described.

Ikesound is that same ebay link. Scala is a stand up guy....searching sounddomain.com forums will show you that.

You would be surprised if you knew how many legitimate shops also have ebay personnas.

I bought my Kenwood KDC-X859 on ebay for about $100 less than anywhere else. Perfect in everyway.

did the unit show the blank face?

I guess the theif was familar w/ the Aiwa CD units cause that unit turns to a blank face when car is off. i had one of those before.

I figured the blank face wouldn't do crap. I rather have a detachable face.

Not too long ago, I had my 90' 240sx broken in by couple of a$$hole thieves. They took the faceplate of my pioneer DEH-7400MP and did a crummy job trying to pry out the head unit out of the console. They bent the frame inside and left large scuff marks on the outside panel. I came out of the house at 530am to find my car doors open, driver side window shattered and all the stuff in the back seat in the middle of the road.
2 months later, they figured that having a good car stereo means that I would have good speakers so the fvcks shattered the huge hatchback glass in the middle of the night. Try as they did, they couldnt get to the speakers with all the junk I have in the back.
I didnt have an alarm so I installed one in myself and parked my car up on the driveway with a motion sensor lamp.
I was driving without any music for a while then I thought that other a$$wipes shouldnt deter me or keep me in fear of getting a new stereo.
I got the CDA7995 Alpine, a Perfect 12.1 Infinity sub, Perfect 6.1's for the front and 3 way Infinity 6x9's for the back. To drive them I got a 1000 watt alpine amp for the sub and another 500 watt 4 channel alpine amp for the speakers.

Ebay rules.

Why doesn't someone develop a device that sits behind the stereo and when stereo is pulled or attempted to the wrong way (some asshole) it spews out some crazy gas or acid that burns their face and blinds them.

Just remember to properly deactivate if you ever need to pull the stereo out :p:D

I would love to own an old Grand Marquis, and I'm 18.

Instead, I got my dad's '91 Sable off him for cheap, and I love that car.

But nothing beats big sedans.

get this

some Circuit City's already have it marked down to $50

if they don't, pricematch down to $50 with this

$50 for a stereo w/ detachable face, remote, mp3....not too shabby(we're not talking about high end electronics here.)

That sounds like good advice for you Ornery. I'm not any expert and I don't know much, but I can say one thing, that is that the post above sounds like some really good advice

What the hell? I don't really know what you're talking about, but are you suggesting a way to booby-trap $200 worth of stereo with $2000 worth of airbag, dashboard, and steering wheel cover? (That doesn't make sense.)
