Sonic and Knuckles

Been sitting here playing with it for the past few hours. Rawkkk.

However, I SWEAR I remember being able to make it work with Sonic 1. But I can't get past the damned error screen.

I remember having that, one of the Sonic games, and a Game Genie all plugged in at once. It was quite the stack. 😛 I've still got all the carts but my ac adapter blew a while back. I forget if it worked with Sonic 1.

Man, you take me back to the old days. I have this game for Sega Genesis sitting in a box somewhere in my basement... good times.

The days of NES, SNES, and Sega Game Geneies were nuts. You'd have it sticking 6 inches out in the NES, 8 inches high on the SNES, and almost a foot long on the Genesis.

By placing the first Sonic game, or most other Sega games inside, a "No way? No way!" screen will pop up with Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Robotnik making odd faces, telling you the cartridge is supposedly incompatible. But, by pressing the A, B, and C buttons together, a minigame based on the Chaos Emerald bonus levels is unlocked, called Blue Sphere. There are 134,217,728 of these levels. Only by locking the original Sonic the Hedgehog game (the Sonic Compilation works as well) in the Sonic & Knuckles cart can one play through all the stages. The other Genesis games will only play one level each, which will infinitely repeat. Despite being near randomly generated, the levels are playable for the most part, even if many bits and pieces of levels get recycled.

Even better was the game genie stack trick on NES (did this work on other systems, too?) to get to use more codes 😀

The girl is quite the Sega aficianado, and she swears i'm an idiot and that it never worked with Sonic 1.BUT I REMEMBERRRRRRRR!

oh yes I remember that...and yes it does work with sonic 1...but you need a Game Genie (for the PAL versions anyway)....the Sega Megadrive(Genesis in the US) was an awesome console....I still play the sonic games on my PC using emulation

Umm.... dude... http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&safe=off&q=2%5E27

Yes, I know. But the assertion that there are in fact that many discrete and distinct levels either involves knowing for a fact that it's mathematically seeded, or being a total cock and playing through them all and checking for uniqueness.

never really played sonic. don't know how my friends are so interested in that stuff...personally think CSS is a much better choice...BOOM HEADSHOT!

Super Mario Bros >>>> Sonic.

That game is awesome. I still have my SNES and play that game at least 3 times a week. Although the console is so deteriorated now that the slightest nudge blanks the screen and deletes all save points on the cartridge. Beating some of the Special World levels was dam hard. But the awesome konga remake of the Mario theme is awesome  But unlocking the autumn game mode is worth it 😀 And of course you gotta like the final Special World level where the final run trying to beat the clock has "YOU ARE A SUPER PLAYER!!!" in coins. Hah, such good times 😀 I have more fun with that then my PS2

Yes, well considering that at 1 minute per level it would take a person 255 years of playing (without sleep) - or if the person played continuously from the release date they'd have to complete each level in an average of 1/3 of a second (again playing continuously), clearly the correct conclusion to come to was that someone actually played all of the levels and verified their uniqueness. 😉

My guess is that there are a set number of different types of segments (say 8) and there are a certain number of segments in each level (say 24) and from that someone was able to calculate the number of possible levels. 😉

How dare you inject math into a thread about a game from before I learned how to multiply!
