I remember having that, one of the Sonic games, and a Game Genie all plugged in at once. It was quite the stack.I've still got all the carts but my ac adapter blew a while back. I forget if it worked with Sonic 1.
By placing the first Sonic game, or most other Sega games inside, a "No way? No way!" screen will pop up with Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Robotnik making odd faces, telling you the cartridge is supposedly incompatible. But, by pressing the A, B, and C buttons together, a minigame based on the Chaos Emerald bonus levels is unlocked, called Blue Sphere. There are 134,217,728 of these levels. Only by locking the original Sonic the Hedgehog game (the Sonic Compilation works as well) in the Sonic & Knuckles cart can one play through all the stages. The other Genesis games will only play one level each, which will infinitely repeat. Despite being near randomly generated, the levels are playable for the most part, even if many bits and pieces of levels get recycled.

The days of NES, SNES, and Sega Game Geneies were nuts. You'd have it sticking 6 inches out in the NES, 8 inches high on the SNES, and almost a foot long on the Genesis.

Yes, I know. But the assertion that there are in fact that many discrete and distinct levels either involves knowing for a fact that it's mathematically seeded, or being a total cock and playing through them all and checking for uniqueness.

Yes, well considering that at 1 minute per level it would take a person 255 years of playing (without sleep) - or if the person played continuously from the release date they'd have to complete each level in an average of 1/3 of a second (again playing continuously), clearly the correct conclusion to come to was that someone actually played all of the levels and verified their uniqueness.
My guess is that there are a set number of different types of segments (say 8) and there are a certain number of segments in each level (say 24) and from that someone was able to calculate the number of possible levels.![]()
