How much did your grandson enjoy it? My nephew is 9 but is a fairly decent console gamer and I will be using my wired Xbox360 controller for this one.

On another note how well do analog controllers work on the steering and such with this game? I will have to pick up another controller and this will help me make my decision on what controller to purchase.

I originally played the game on my 360, so I used that controller. I used my wired one with my PC when I played it on there, and it was still fine. I usually prefer a controller (or a wheel if I'm really feeling into it) with a racer.

Thanks for the response. Did you have to use a special program to get all the buttons to work like the xbox360ce software or did it work right away with no tweaking?

I'm guessing the XboxOne gamepads will also just work, and hopefully are detected by every game that uses the 360 gamepads as those. If so, I'm going to sell my 2 360 gamepads and PC receiver and order 2 XboxOne gamepads.

Mostly just for that dpad. They should have never messed with it. Copy it from the NES. There's no reason it needs to be anything but a +

Well, for those to work, Microsoft would have to release a USB-based wireless receiver like they did with the 360 controllers. They could, but there's no guarantee.

Keep me posted on the XboxOne controller functionality please. I do agree that a good controller makes a big difference.

I'm about to rip my monitor in two.

The config program is so da@m buggy. All I want to do is config my controllers and it either locks up or if I'm fortunate enough to finally get a config saved, it randomly loses it a day or two later and clears everything.

Gahhhhhhhhh.

I definitely had some of the same problems with the configuration tool. Although, I think it still works fine even if it crashes and you managed to get the controller settings in before the crash.

I can't believe I never even heard of this game hitting the PC until the Summer Sale. Out of the $100+ I spent, the $7.50 I spent on Transformed is by far the best money I spent. This game is friggin awesome!:D

Aye Virge its right up there for best sub $10 I have spent on a game period. Since its a racer its got a long shelf life as far as replayability.
One thing though.. I recently opened up the higher difficulty and from what I hear its rather difficult. :)

Oh one thing I learned rather quickly, disable AA out of game. (it borks the game). That solved my issues. Not sure if its game or Ati/Nvidia related.

I'm just gonna go on record and say this is not a kid friendly game in my opinion. It's hard as balls. Some games hold your hand too much, but this one is definitely lacking in the instructions department. After almost 17 hours I've pretty much figured out all the controls and weapons, but it was definitely a lot of trial and error.

I've completed the world tour mode on hard and unlocked expert so I'm going back through the tour again. I've spent up to an hour on certain tracks trying to get my stars. Several hundred profanities have been yelled at the screen with gusto, not gonna lie.

If you're highly competitive this game will make you rage, but if you're more light hearted easy going you'll probably have a good time. With other human beings it's probably not quite as bad, but the AI picks on the player big time. I'll be in last place at the start of a race and one of the assholes in a pack of 5 CPU's ahead of me will launch an ice shot or a tornado backwards right into my facepiece, and I'm like BITCH MOTHER FUCKER WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM. And there have been several occasions where the track splits into 2 separate paths and I'll be taking the left one and a bot will be well ahead of me taking the right path and turn at just the right angle to make a diagonal backwards ice shot with machine like precision and nail me just to be a dick.

And don't even get me started on the traffic challenges... FUCK THE PO LEECE. It also doesn't help that I'm leveling all the characters in order as I go through the tour, and always seem to end up with a level one oversized car like Sonic's or B.D. Joe's (which I'm just gonna assume stands for Black Dude and/or Big Dick Joe cause Sega is a bunch of Nazis) tank ass cadillac that handles like crap and can't weave through 3 stacked cars without coming to a near stop.

The no-weapon races are a breath of fresh air cause I've yet to lose one, but they're few and far between. It's definitely a fun game, even though it frustrates the hell out of me I've been playing it in marathons of 5-6 hours at a time. I've only used a wired 360 controller which is set up to go out of the box without any further configuration. Also the original Sonic Racing game was a lazy ass port that didn't even include online multiplayer, so skip that one and just stick with Transformed.

It's kind of a bummer that this game gets no recognition over Mario Kart when you could probably argue that it's the superior game. Although, the one thing that Mario definitely has over it would be overall theme as the lamest thing about Sonic has to be the rather generic weapons. It's hard to beat them turtle shells!

How is it with mouse/kb, or does it need a controller?

I use a controller, but I don't think it's necessary. Frankly, a wired 360 controller is probably one of the best accessories that you can have for PC gaming these days. If you'd rather use a controller for a game, that one usually works really well.

Oh one thing I learned rather quickly, disable AA out of game. (it borks the game). That solved my issues. Not sure if its game or Ati/Nvidia related.

What sort of problems were you seeing with AA on? I kept having slight hitches/freezes while playing, and I never did spend the time to figure out why.

I didn't really have any problems with it. If you've played a Mario Kart game before, everything is pretty similar. The only thing this game doesn't do is coddle someone that's in last place.

I'll be in last place at the start of a race and one of the assholes in a pack of 5 CPU's ahead of me will launch an ice shot or a tornado backwards right into my facepiece

The best advice that I can give you is... NEVER be in a direct line behind another kart. However, that won't help you much in multiplayer, as you can be a crafty dog and fire projectiles at an angle by drifting!

Why waste time leveling up some of those worthless racers? In what seems like a bit of franchise favorites, the best characters to level are Sonic and Tails. Sonic is great in just about any race except for... the ring challenges, which I've found Tails excels at because of his high maneuverability without sacrificing speed. I've leveled a few other characters such as Metal Sonic (almost exactly like Sonic) and Shadow. Shadow isn't too bad either. If I remember correctly, his Boost value is higher than Sonic's, but he still has a good amount of other stats. So, if you're having trouble with Boost races, he's a good option.

EDIT:

Oh noes... my post time traveled!

I broke my Xbox 360 controller on Friday night because of the Shinobi level on hard. I tried for over 2 hours and every time I caught the breaks to finish first, I would get bullshitted in the most the ridiculous ways. So I uninstalled because I obviously needed a break.

Game is tough as shit, but fun.

The game would launch with graphical bugs and after doing some reading the game doesnt support forced AA. Let the game handle stuff. Shrug....

I also got this game during the summer sale... I think graphically it is quite excellent - very appealing to the eyes. But as far as comparing it to Mario Kart, I don't see it. Outside of it being a kart racer, the similarities start to break away. I think they tried to add too much to the game by having (some of - not sure how many) the levels change by the lap and your vehicle changes types throughout a race. Also the weapons are not varied as much (possibly I just haven't done the right mode?).

Overall I like the game but I think it is lacking compared to Mario Kart. But of course I could just be biased having grown up on MK & MK64, but I don't think so.

Mario Karts have the levels changing and have your kart change with a glider and underwater stuff as well now. Sonic Transformed isn't doing anything new, but what it does it does very very well (imo it is better than what Mario Kart is now, but omg am I looking forward to Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U)

It supports mouse/kb, but I can't imagine playing it with one. You really need a proper controller for this, as driving games have never handled well on a keyboard.

Agreed. Not that it's a bad thing. For the most part I can just barely handle the AI on medium unless I get well ahead of the pack. The hard AI curbstomps me badly.

There's an AA compatibility flag for NVIDIA's drivers that is supposed to allow forced AA on this game (SGSSAA goodness), but I never could get it working correctly.

Personally I find this a lot more fun than Mario Kart Wii, but I haven't tried 7 (the 3DS version). Then again it's not as if Mario Kart is ever coming to the PC.
