LOL!

One of the better Nirvana remakes that I've heard was "School" by Fear Factory.

As for the Tool cover of "No Quarter", I admit that I'm heavily emotionally biased there. No Quarter is probably my favorite Zep song and any version of it not by LZ just isn't right.

The Tool one isn't bad...I just don't like it :)

I really like Metallica's cover of Turn the Page. I like Whiskey in the Jar too.

Wait, since when can you spout off a song that isn't about yourself. This is Public Enemy with or w/o Anthrax. He "sings" the lyrics as if he is in Public Enemy, for which he isn't. Complete crap. When will Fred Durst learn that he has no tallent?

Edit: You get the idea of what I mean, I'm drunk so the only other way I can explain it is: Imagine another band doing Snot's "Snot".

If you don't know what I'm talking about, go back to your Nickelback albums.

I  SNOT!. Too bad their singer got killed in a car wreck :(

Anywhoo....I'm actually surprised that nobody had piped in yet and said that "Bring the Noise" with Anthrax was actually a remake of the PE original.

Oh, I just remembered another one. I have no idea who did it; but, somebody covered Iggy Pop's "Passenger" for a Target ad. I'm not sure which is worse: some pop group covering the song or that it's used to promote great values on Back-to-School items.

Fred D. ain't got nuthin on Chuck D.
And Staind just has absolutely no energy to add to the music.

I heard this on the radio coming home today. Scott Ian must have died a little inside.

The original version to wash the Durst out of your ears :p

Good lord, how freaking terrible.

I loved the original so much!

Worst IMO

Madonna - American Pie (hate the original but this is even worse)
Sheryl Crow - Sweet Child O Mine (I mean really, wtf was she thinking...really)
Someone did a cover of Under the Bridge by RHCP and just butchered it, can't remember who.

Best IMO

Faith no More - Easy
Cake - I will survive
Postal Service - Such Great Heights
Sonic youth - Superstar
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Higher Ground
Nirvana - Man Who sold the World
Johnny Cash - Hurt

As much as I like NIN, Johnny Cash all but stole that song from them, he did it much better, and it now sounds like Trent is the one with a crappy cover.

But when the Anthrax song was done it included Public Enemy, right?

I didn't think it was that bad. I liked their Black Flag reference. Have you heard their cover of Skid Row's 'I Remember You'?

My contribution: Avril Lavigne's cover of SOAD's 'Chop Suey'. Will post on request.

How about a remake that is better than the original? Blinded by the Light, the boss did it first, Manfred Mann got it right.

Someone, I think it was My Chemical Romance, did a cover of David Bowie/Queen's "Under Pressure". From what I remember, it completely sucked the emotional life out of the song and turned it into alternicrap shit.

Good remake: Alanis Morissette's remake of Seal's "Crazy".

NFW, Cake's version of I will Survive is brilliant!! They took a crappy song and made it worth listening to.

Uhh.... this was the original. While John Denver wrote the song, his recording wasn't released until years later.

DIAF (edit, and I'm a Cake fan, having seen them several times live). The issue here is that you spit upon the pinnacle of disco. Next thing you know, you'll move on from Gloria Gaynor and start talking shit about KC and the Sunshine Band :)

Uh... tap your own... I'm drunk, listening to Glenn Miller, and pondering the origins of rock n' roll right now.
In fact, I was thinking of starting thread, debating the jazz origins of Miller's Pennsylvania 6-500 versus the blues of Robert Johnson's Traveling Riverside Blues.
Way to go, dude...;)

I read somewhere that she actually wrote the song for GnR way back when.

And yeah, her version was 1000x worse.

whaaattt?
Where did you get this. If anyone contests that is wasn't Axl, it was the Righteous Brothers. i think a suit was filed.
