Wow, that sucks. At first I thought you meant a bad pixel on the capture end...resulting in a defect in every pic you take

geno - The Canon S200 is awesome and considered higher end than the A40.

I personally prefer the A40's larger size making it easier to grip, the S200 is just TOO SMALL.

Basically a semiconductor that is sensitive to light. Read all about it here. (Charge-Coupled Device)

s200 has pretty much the same specs as the canon a40.

reasons i wouldn't get it:

2x optical zoom as opposed to 3x for a40.
smaller and easier to drop (happened to my sister, she dropped her cam within a week of getting it)
batteries cost more.
batteries arent as flexible (cant just get extra batteries for cheap)

We looked at the a40.......but finally bought the Fuji FinePix 2800Zoom. 6X optical, a "real" case with good handhold, and a nifty through-the-lens viewfinder just like an SLR.

In the end, though, there are many great cameras capable of excellent photos.

Yeah, the 2x zoom is a bummer. The pics look nice from the s200, but not noticably better than my A40 *shrug* It IS smaller, but I don't need a tiny camera other than the cool factor...
