Actually milk is loaded with carbs also, more so than Gatorade G2. Not to mention cow growth hormones and other crap humans should not be eating.

Word is soda is the worst thing one can drink, but what else are you going to wash down that quad baconator from Wendys.

rofl. soda is just processed sugar diluted with water. the last time i checked, our brains need processed sugar to survive. it is healthier to eat complex sugar and let your body process it, as it keeps your blood sugar from spiking, but really... your body can handle a little processed sugar. thats why kids go apeshit when they get it, because it really does go right to their heads and their brains are on full throttle then. i drink 3-4 cans of mountain dew every day, i dont have any ill effects from it (i work construction, sweat it out everyday. i drink a lot of water too)

There is no point.

There is no need to drink sports drinks unless you're exercising for an extremely long duration.

You're right - but this isn't a black and white world, and its a simple fact that while its still far from ideal, Gatorade is considerably better for you than soda.

An analogy - switching from supersize double quarter pounder meals to regular sized quarter pounder meals. The analogous argument to what you're saying is "so? he's still eating mcdonalds, that's terrible!" and in while its still not necessarily a healthy meal, its a whole lot better than what it was.

Health habits take time to truly change. People do "diets" where they drastically change things for a week, a month, a season, only to revert back to their old ways. Small, gradual changes make it easier to truly change your lifestyle. While drinking Gatorade is far from the goal, its certainly a step in the right direction, and he should be applauded for it.

Water or Milk

Everything else.......loads of sugar or crap you don't want in your body.

Gatorade is no exception.

Gatorade has a good purpose for athletes. Sure you can supplement water in various ways, but it's not as practical as being able to fill a cooler with an electrolite drink.

If you aren't really active and/or a total ectomorph, milk will pack on pounds.

but fuck yeah, if you are lifting heavy drink milk as much as you can.

I'd never, ever, ever recommend trying to chug some when you are majorly exerted and overheated though. I have seen white barf trails probably 20 feet out from that attempt at times.

Thanks gang for the interesting comments. BTW kid isn't a moron, but he is autistic. He lives in an alternate universe. It's my job to somehow get him through real life on his own. I'm pleased that he made a decision about drinking soda.

It is a long shot. And i am sure you have already tried everything.
I doubt it is possible having 3 full time jobs (Although i assume , all jobs are part time) for your son to analyze and write down the effects of consuming different types of food.
But is it possible that your son can live on a low sugar diet ?
What i mean is that there is also some indications from research that the wrong diet actually worsen the effects of autism.

I do not know if this is the case for your son :
A part of the autism spectrum is heightened sensitivity of some or all senses.
But that sensitivity also extends towards the digestive system. Meaning that a person that is autistic would start to feel increasingly uncomfortable.
Add the "normal" stress from everyday life...

It takes a good understanding of ones self to be able to be constant aware and in the end control the sensitivity. Enough sleep is also very important.

A general rule of thumb :

One sided diets are bad for every person.
But it is even worse for people with autism disorders.
A diet with lots of sugar in it, is also a one sided diet...
Hidden calories is what it is all about.
Although there always is the inevitable exception, balance is the most important thing in life.

I can prove diet pop causes weight gain. Just look at people drinking diet pop, a lot of them are fat. :)

I used to love being a server and seeing people get eggs and steak and then a diet coke. That diet is going to really help you there buddy.

well...let's go to california pizza kitchen.

i can get the fish tacos for like 1100 calories, and a diet coke.

or i can get the thai crunch salad at 1400 calories. better add avocado. 1600 calories. and a diet coke. ;)

salads aren't much better for you than meals when you add the dressing. but when i'm downing around 60 oz of soda at a meal (a conservative estimate for me) i'm far better off with diet coke, so i'm not ingesting 600 calories in just soda. for some people, the calorie count of soda can represent a significant part of their meal, and since it is just sugar, it'd be better off gone.
