Yeah, I know that wild animals may also have diseases...... But, if you want to see something really gross, you have to see an animal with botfly larva....
I didn't find any really good pics right away with a google search... I'll have to look tomorrow. I need to finish typing a physics test at the moment...

Ohh I know, I have had humanbot fly larve in my shoulder. Trust me whenI didn't know what it was it sure turned my stomach.

Gross! How did you get one of those? I want to not do whatever you did to get one.

Ohh I got it in belize, or guatamalea. Basically I was around some horses, that aparently one had had some and the mosquitoes were carrying the larva. Anyway I had it in my shoulder and somehow I squeezed it out prematurely so it was all good. The bad part was my girlfriend had one on her forehead, and she had to go a week knowing it was in there. I actually find them to be really fascinating, the way they are built it quite cool, those pictures don't give full justice to those spines the run in a spiral pattern all the way down the body.

VOMIT!! Oh man, that's so gross. I think that would end the relationship for me right there. Every time I would look at her, all I would see is insects eating their way out of her forehead. *Pukes*

I think when my son's old enough...I'm going to buy him a camera and we'll go out into nature and "shoot" animals that way!:) A lot less blood and guts to deal with;)

I think it's great that you spend time with your boy whatever the hobby may be. Of course I'm sure you do it responsibly and teach him respect for all animals.

I personally would'nt go hunting...one I don't have the guts, and I cry if I see a dead bird on the side of the road. (For the record I grew up on a farm in a small town...so don't classify me as "city folk":)) But If you are hunting to provide for your family, and you are eating the meat you kill, then I honestly can't say I have a problem with that.

I do have a problem however with hunting for sport...killing something for absolutely no reason other than to say you did it, and hang it's head on wall....just don't understand!

I loved hunting.... when I was playing The Oregon Trail at school...

I'd like to go to a shooting range sometime and learn to use a handgun, but I couldn't bring myself to go hunting. Not that I have a problem with what goes on, but I just couldn't squeze the trigger :-\

Out of curiosity, exactly how much meat comes off a little ole squirrel? Enough for one person?

Depends on your appetite. Personally one squirrel is just about enough for me. Haven't had it in a long itme though so that may have changed.

Glad to hear you're getting your son into hunting. We need more youth to get into it.

As for you people that don't like hunters, where would you be if your ancestors hadn't hunted? What's the big difference between going out in the blistering cold and killing your own dinner and going and getting in your car and going to the supermarket and buying dinner?

Oh yeah, the animals I hunt have a damn good chance of getting away, that dinner you buy at the supermarket was raised to be killed. Keep on telling yourself hunting is inhumane though, i'm sure those animals you are eating from the supermarket had a wonderful life roaming free in the wild.

Hunting is fine and necessary, but a very few hunters can do wonders to tarnish the image of hunting. It is the same with all things involving the good and bad parts of human nature, but the violence of hunting accentuates the bad way out of proportion.

On a side note:
Today we spotted a doe in the canyon we are working in. She was laying down all day in the same spot, very unusual for the deer on the site. If she is still down tomorrow, I suspect she will expire naturally.

Wouldn't it be better if you used a clean sharp razor?

I've had a squirrel STEAL food from me..I was golfing and pulled the cart next to the
green to putt out. While I was doing so a squirrel came down the tree, jumped into
the storage area in the front of the cart and made off with a full package of cheese
crackers!. Back up the tree he went and proceeded to eat the crackers on a limb right
above me. Small crumbs fell as he clucked away, enjoying his treat. The little bastard
was mocking me! I considered useing my 5 iorn as "Mr sluggo" and try to peen 'em but
figured it would get caught in the tree... DOWN WITH SQUIRRELS!!!!!

Drpizza, you're up around olean I see. We used to go up to north of eldred, pa right on the NY border in the summer. Nice country up there. My fathers going up there end of this month bow hunting. They stay at a horse ranch called Big Loop, half of the property is in NY and half is in PA. Maybe some year I'll get the urge to bow hunt and join them.

...eat what you kill. If you do that, then it's no different than going to the grocery store and buying food. I mean, they had to kill that cow before you could buy that steak.

Why bother.....

Overpopulation is a SERIOUS problem. If there were no hunting allowed, the government would have to spend serious cash to trap, relocate (where to?), or kill the animals that would otherwise be hunted. As it is, automotive collisions with animals cost millions of dollars a year, imagine if there were even more deers around.

And obviously, people have fun hunting, so that's why they bother.

Overpopulation by humans is a big "problem" too....perhaps I should start shooting and eating people?

Don't you think if squirrels were more intelligent they would thinking "overpopulation by these humans with there come and destroy nature" is a big problem?

If squirrels were at the top of the food chain, then yes, I'd expect them to say that. But they're not. We are. Therefore it is our job to control overpopulation.

Human are destructive & yes we have a population problem, but rest assure that it is being taken care of. We have such things as war, gas & soap factories, ethnic cleansing, suicide, random shooting & bombing, and terrorist hunting as a mean of population control.

Not to mention Aids, STD's, Heart Disease, Alcohol, Cigarettes, and Obesity.
