Squirell eating wierdos

Think your son'll better off if u taught him to read & write instead. What's he gonna give his bride as a wedding gift - a moose head?

Nothing wrong in a father teaching his son the values of hunting and clean hunting. Do you even know who your father is?

What's so weird about eating squirell? In many other countries it is perfectly acceptable to eat things like dog, horse, various rodents, insects, that most city folk in the US would find weird.

I am sure his son is going to learn to read and write as well. If he likes hunting, and wants his son to learn too..how does that hurt you? The boy will probably not end up being one of those kids who ends up finding dads gun in the closet and shooting himself.

I just helped a friend of mine who is a certified NRA Law Enforcement Instructor teach a tactical handgun class. It was 10 adults aged 27-49 and one 13 year old boy whose father was also there. You know who was the best student, most responsible, and arguably the one who was the safest? The 13 year old. Young children learn quickly and do not have the lifetime of bad habits and pre-conceptions that adults do.

Kudos to you and your son.

It really isn't much different than eating buffalo/hot wings. Very little meat one the bones.

But this really isn't anything out of the ordinary for me, since I've pretty much ate anything you can hunt, fish or trap in the midwest.

BBQ'd beaver is quite good. As are pan fried froglegs and turtle.
Neve had that kind of beaver, but fried frogs & baked turles on rock salt are yummy.

if larger predators were more prevalent, overpopulation of rodents wouldn't be an issue. humans cut back the hunting grounds and habitats of these predators in order to make room for mini marts, sub-par housing, and parking lots. Not to mention we kill these larger creatures simply out of fear. Thus we must take on the role of the overseer and maintain such pests to environmental and nominal levels. I don't like guns or enjoy killing animals, but it is a neccessary evil for your shooping market to exist, for it to be stocked, and so soccer moms don't have to berate themselves for running over an army of squirrels on the way to said market.

I don't know how to use a gun, and am against gun for war, violent & law enforcement. But, I do believe that it is a tool and should be handle as such. I prefer that people kill their own food over the hunters that get their meat at the butcher, because they would value their food more than the majority of city folks. There have been studies that 1/4 of major cites are made up of spoiled food?I don?t know that statistic of food waste by farmer or people that live in the stick, but I bet you that they don?t dump it out like city folks or city restaurants.

Wow, that's the most amusing post in this thread! Because:
1. My son can spell "squirrel"
2. My son can spell the word "you"
3. My son can spell "vegetarian"
yet you're telling me to teach him to read & write?

But, he couldn't catch a football if his life depended on it. lol

What a silly response. This man clearly indicated he is an immigrant from India. He never said your son could not read or write. He was saying that maybe your time would be better spent if you concentrated on your son's studies of reading and writing, rather than his rodent hunting skills. As a defense, you attack his English? Weaksauce!

DrPizza and his son are actually spending time together doing stuff they enjoy doing. Even if you find the actual act of hunting repulsive, at least he is taking the time to teach his son proper gun handling saftey, spending time with his son, and showing him how provide food for himself. All of which are much better than throwing your kid in front of a TV for hours on end or having to pencil in your kid's soccer game which you would otherwise forget because you are too busy working.

I am so glad that my pop and grandad raised me hunting, fishing, camping etc. They best memories of my youth are the time we shared together outdoors. I am now blessed with being able to do the same things with my kids.

My 5 year old daughter knows more about nature and how it works than a hundred of your average PETA members.

So, our family gets to have our first dinner provided by my son tomorrow night :) (I can hear some of you saying ewwww already... squirrel is actually quite tasty; tastes somewhat like rabbit.) The best part of it is that my son can responsibly use a firearm. He's been shooting since he was 7 yrs old and can rival just about anyone in this forum for marksmanship and gun safety.

Congrats!

i started hunting at about 12. hunting small game such as squirrels and rabbits. got pretty good at hitting the little buggers out of trees!

I deer hunt now (bow hunt). if its toward the end of the hunting day i start looking for a squirrel to get. i usually get one a while out.

for those that have not has squirrel meat you are missing out. we eat it if i happen to bag one. heck my grandmother eats the brains. eww i never tried that myself.

Don't eat the brains... there's something similar to Jacob-Creitchfeld (spelling is wrong, but I'm not looking it up) that you can get.

No he did not "clearly" state that. He said "Think your son'll better off if u taught him to read & write instead," implying that his son, at age 13, does NOT know how to read and write. And the implication from that is that he is a backwoods raised redneck who can't spell his own name.

Vonkhan is a misguided hypocrite who can't see the failings in his own arguments, so he has to resort to insults about testicular fortitude and illiteracy.
