Why is it dumb? I think you're going to be in a huge minority of people who are going to have the time to put into this on a tablet. Which I guess doesn't really matter unless you're banking on this funding the next BG.

Why does the tablet matter at all? Unless the control scheme is horribly broken, it's still the same game. The website even says that multiplayer between the different platforms is supported.

Also, most of the people on these forums (the tech savvy) probably have a tablet of some sort. It's not as though the only people who own tablets are completely disinterested in rich gaming experiences. Not everyone is going to buy it, but I don't think it's any more fair to suggest that the number of people would would buy this for a tablet is somehow less than the percentage of people who would buy it for PC.

If it's less expensive for the tablet version, I'll just grab that as well, just to try it out.

I'm not sure but I think the tablet version is cheaper ($10) but lacks some of the added content. To get the extra content you'll have to purchase is separately . On the pc version of BG:EE there's an button on the main screen called store and when you go into it you're shown two of the added characters and a portrait pack. Underneath them is a buy button that you can't click since you already own them. I'm guessing you'll have to pay extra for that on the tablet.

Also I didn't know but some of (if not all) of the new characters are romance options. Neera seemed pretty ticked when I kicked her out of my party and I was wondering why so when I looked up some info about her I found out that she's a romance option. I don't know if they added romance options to any of the original characters though.

When you say "not strictly a wild mage" I hope you mean not a wild mage at all, but a sorceress. The two are not related at all.

I wouldn't try to establish a trend from two points of data. Otherwise if you were to gain two pounds from dinner on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, they'd need a crane to lift you out of your room before long.

While I have not played Diablo 3, I followed its development and they also had a wild sorceress written in there. DA:O also had a headstrong sorceress, although I forget her name.
I don't think it means that all games will make head strong magic users female though.

As for two data points not being a trend, I think you will find that is exactly the definition of a trend line. Now admittedly, there are usually a number of other examples supporting the data points, but a trend line is defined as two or more data points representing a pattern.

You are just incorrect about your whole premise of "wild mage personality". You've found two female magic users in D&D based games that you find to have similar personalities (in games 6 years apart), and are trying to build a framework around it to make a "trend" where nothing exists.

"Wild Mage" was a character concept that originated in the Forgotten Realms fantasy novel called "Wild Magic". Within the confines of the story, it designated a Wizard that derived their magic ability not from studying, but rather from innate ability and an affinity to Nature. This sounds remarkably like a Sorcerer to me. You can look it up on either the Wizards of the coast site or on any of the Forgotten Realms Wiki sites. Or order the book on Amazon and actually READ something.

Either way, it was a character concept long before it was a game mechanic. And it continues to be a character concept and template long after 2nd edition went by the way side. I also wouldn't doubt that the concept for the game mechanic of Sorcerer was probably based at least in part on "Wild Mage".

Qara was designed as a Sorceress not fully in control of her magic ability. And prone to magical excess. Sounds pretty much like a wizard unable to control their magic, at least in concept.

People like you really need to understand that the DnD rules are intended to be guidelines for a role playing environment. Not absolute iron clad mechanics sans originality, imagination or conceptual license. Any given character is more than a sum of their class, race and level. They are Concept and originality and in some cases iconization or mimicry.

The preface of the Dungeon Masters Guide (way back in the day) actually starts off with "The rules contained herein are intended to be a guideline and nothing more." or words to that effect (I would dig out my old copy, but am not sure where it is at the moment). but the sentiment remains the same. Gary Gygax and Frank Mentzer would both agree. In fact they did when I saw them at a convention way back in the day.

When you shoehorn concepts into rigid tiny little boxes, you utterly miss out on the wonder and Majesty that is Role Playing Gaming.

So, any reviews from the folks that downloaded it? How much is the new content? How good is it? any assessments on if it is/was worth the wait or not?

I like it. I never actually completed BG1, so this was worth the money to me. On the PC you don't have to buy any extras, they all come bundled in already. Not having to mod the game is a big plus.

The downside: A couple days ago I emailed BeamDog about redownloading the game (it's on my laptop, I want it on my desktop too) and they have not responded yet...
