A developer can build more units and make more money if he's able to bypass certain zoning restrictions(ie. setback distances, height restrictions, etc) by making a % of the units affordable. Who's buying votes and wasting taxpayer money?

That's a rather cynical view. Cities require people to work certain Low Wage Jobs, without them the city can not function. That is why the Market is not relied on, as it Fails to meet the Needs in many cases.

How about paying better for the low wage jobs so people can afford to live in the city? It will give the workers the choice on what they want to spend their money on: a place to live close to where they work, or extra money if they live with an hour commute. This sort of configuration empowers the people to move the market instead of artificially constraining the market to meet the needs of the people.

I highly suspect that the $800 Condos are no where near as Luxurious as the other Suites. Gyms, Pools, and other Luxuries would certainly be included, but thatt's another thing entirely.
