I was in boston and saw this condo for 350K....the condo was sold....so realtor says that he has this fantastic condo for 250K that was listed just today. I am thinking, man, this must be a 400 SQ FT... Boy was I wrong. It was a 1200 SQ FT apt in the Boston's govt center area. It had an elevator and doorman. I was like HOLY SHIT. DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH! No one died in the apt. There was no drug raid, sign me up. I call my gf to doen and sign stuff. My gf and I begin to fill papers and we say we will not even counter offer. He looks over the papers...No go...why? My gf and I make too much. What? Yup...this place is GOVT. ASSISTED. HOw does one get govt assistance to buy a condo in BOSTON? I thoughtit was only rent. You cannot make a combined income of more than 86K. I have never questioned the govt when it comes to housing, but that is just over the line....

edit:

found loop hole....my gf and I put in an offer...fyi, the price is actually 230K, not 250K.

Yup. It's fucked up.

Hard working people are SOL. Quit your job and some pinko group will be happy to write you a check from the tax payer's account to get you in that condo.

Many cities strong arm and extort condo developers to make a certain % of the units for low income so they can hook up their family or constituents with under market housing. Santa Monica does this.

It's like section 8 for condos.

Obviously it was meant to be Affordable Housing. Sorry. Realtor probably should have mentioned that before getting your hopes up.

stupid enough to buy a house you cant afford for 3 times its worth? no problem well eat the difference on your loan!

buy some retarded 8 mpg fuckwagon thats worth nothing after gas went up? its ok! well give you a fat check to THROW IT AWAY!

🙂

Affordable to who? That's a pretty general statement. Obviously the OP can afford it since he was interested.

Now you're staring to figure out that you're getting screwed if you make decent money. Time to start paying attention to gubment and how they're screwing you left and right.

That's a rather cynical view. Cities require people to work certain Low Wage Jobs, without them the city can not function. That is why the Market is not relied on, as it Fails to meet the Needs in many cases.

If they did, they wouldn't need any assistance.

I hope you're not talking about janitors and garbage men since 95% of them are unionized and have some of the best non-skilled labor rates in the country. I think 20-25/hour to pick up trash is a fair wage.

They wouldn't qualify either. There are many Jobs that don't Pay anything near that amount and are still required in the City. Hell, I bet half the people Posting in this thread think those people you mention are not worth half as much as they Earn.

So, because a certain property is out of someone's price range they are entitled to a discount? GTFO. It's called living within your means. If you can't afford a property then find a cheaper one, or rent and save your money until you CAN afford it.

Also, minimum wage jobs are not intended to be living wage jobs. I thought everyone knew this.

Sigh. It obviously isn't out of their Price Range now, isn't it? This is a major problem in any big City. Your solution only results in Working people living on the street.

Even Minimum Wage is far short of what a Living Wage is in the City. You might wanna read up on the issue.

the world is so simple for elitists. try telling that to the single immigrant mother who came to this country on her own and worked two jobs to support her only child. ever since she came here, she wanted her own house but could not afford the over-inflated prices. one day she heard of something called govt assisted housing and put her name down on a list. after many years she finally got a call that a small two bedroom condo finally opened up and she was at the top of the list. She finally got to own a house and works hard to make each mortgage payment. When she is finally ready to move on, she'll have to sell way below market, but she doesnt care. She is just happy to have a place she can call home

btw, this is in a suburb...not in a big city

Incorrect.

Absolutely correct. There are tons of good paying jobs ready for people who want to show up and actually work.

Cities require Workers for all sorts of Wage ranges. Not all are "Good Paying". Besides, if all went into "Good Paying" fields, simple Economics shows that they would cease be "Good Paying" soon after. So you might wanna tone down the empty rhetoric.

What?

Lets try this again. The condo at fair market value is out of the price range of some people. This does not entitle these people to a 100k discount at the tax payer's expense so they can now "afford" the house. This simply means they need to save their money so that they can eventually afford it, find a cheaper property or find higher paying jobs (which requires effort and time, something people expecting a hand out don't like!).

Of course minimum wage jobs are not living wage jobs. I just said that, but thanks for agreeing with me. Lets say it again: Minimum wage jobs ARE NOT intended to be living wage jobs. They are intended to be part time jobs for young people, seniors and working adults to SUPPLEMENT FULL TIME SKILLED INCOME JOBS. A person can't live on a minimum wage job, this is common knowledge.

Don't expect liberal people to think rationally. They're fans of a welfare state and ranting about obviously flawed things like this will cause them to oppose you.

In your world you probably work for your money and buy things that are within your means. This does not satisfy the liberal. They believe in handouts and entitlements.
