WIth a running clock do 100 pull ups, 100 push ups, 100 sit ups (nothing to hold your feet), and 100 squats (no weight). Finish each workout in that order as fast as you can for time. Anything below 20 minutes is above average.

Got this from a military guy. Sounds like fun to me.:) y'all can post thoughts and times. I'll try it and see soon. Anyone interested?

one of the trainers at my gym was talking about doing something similar with bench pressing 100 reps and see how fast you can do it. he said he got a lot stronger from doing so over a few months. he started at 185lbs and went up to 225lbs. i forget his time, but i do remember him saying that anything under 20 minutes was pretty good.

WOW 100 pullups. I've done 50 pullups. Shortest I ever did them in was 4 sets, and I think that still took me about 10 minutes.

I call bullshit, the pull ups themselves would take the 'average' person at least 20 min. I can manage to get 16 every 4-5 min then add pushups and situps not that they're nearly as hard but still you'd be wore down from the pull ups. squats would be so easy tho.

This is a Crossfit workout called "Angie". As with most Crossfit workouts, you are supposed to use kipping pull-ups, so a sub 20 minute time is very doable. Note that the exercises are to be done in the order written - 100 pull-ups, then 100 push-ups, then 100 sit-ups, etc - but if you are good, 100 pull-ups can be done surprisingly fast. My PR on Angie from a while ago is 16:28, although I should be able to crush that now.

I think when people say pull-ups the presumption is no-kipping unless stated.

30 consecutive deadhang pull-ups is pretty much unheard of and I'd say elite whereas an intermediate CFer can do 30 kPU's

In the Crossfit world, the opposite is true. Or, to be more specific, we simply define a pull-up as "full extension at the bottom, chin over the bar at the top" (all while hanging from a bar, obviously). How you get from start to end is up to you. And since "Angie" is a Crossfit workout, the presumption should be that kipping pull-ups are the way to go.

So? They are two different exercises, just like the overhead press and the push press. Few people can strict press 225lbs, but plenty of people can push press it. Neither one is "better". The only thing that matters is the goal of the workout. With "Angie", the goal is to develop conditioning & endurance, for which kipping pull-ups are a much better choice. With other Crossfit workouts, strict pull-ups are required, as the goal is to train strength or power.

That looks hard.

Another fun one that's in the same vein is the 300 workout. That's the one they used to help train for the movie, but it also happens to contain 300 reps. It goes:

25 pullups
50 deadlifts @ 135lbs
50 pushups
50 Box jumps
50 floor sweepers @ 135lbs
50 single arm clean & presses with a 35 lb dumbell or equivalent kettlebell. (25 each arm)
25 pullups

My best time is ~19 minutes. I've been doing it every Saturday for about 2.5 months.

Frankly, it doesn't look like his chin gets above the bar.
