Someone's stealing my packages

could someone refer a good motion-activated security type of camera that can be used outdoors? We don't have a window that can be pointed directly at the door. There's that other issue of the burglar being able to disable/damage it.

When I hear webcam I think of the ones that need to be USB-connected. What's the latest and greatest method of doing it?

I have choose to have all packages delivered to my office. All the delivery companies seem to act differently when they are delivering to a business. They always ask for signatures, and there is always someone there to accept them, so none of the drivers dare use the ninja technique to claim that delivery was attempted by no-one was home.

So last Friday I ordered some stuff from Amazon. Expected delivery was on two days - 2 of the items on Tue Nov 13 other 2 on Wed Nov 14.

I have the text messaging alert subscribed so I get the notification yesterday that 2 are delivered. Well that's odd, when I get home no packages at my door. Usually that text comes 30 minutes to an hour after the packages are there. But nothing until nighttime still no sign of them so I call UPS to say WTF? They referred me to Amazon. They said I have to wait 2 days. ok fine.

Next day Wed I expect 2 more packages, and I get the texts that they are delivered. When I get home to check, again nothing. My mom was home all day and she heard or saw nothing. I live in a quiet suburban area.

So either they got some retard driver who keeps putting my packages on someone else's door - who is a dirty rotten wise and beautiful woman and is stealing them - or the driver himself is stealing them.

Really frustrated with this.

Amazon is willing to refund me which is great but I am really annoyed by the thought of someone stealing my packages and am expecting future packages to end up in the same fate.

Install a hidden camera.

I've started doing this recently. My desk is near the front door of the office (along with a few other people) so there's a 100% chance I get my package. Also, the UPS/FedEx guys that deliver to our building are always super nice and ALWAYS get signatures for everything (that I've seen).

If you suspect stolen, get a large box, put some bricks in it, along with some sort of device that you can track (gps enabled phone?) and have it delivered to you. Put some sort of enticing label on the box.

This. Do this!

If it happens enough times, Amazon will/should automatically put signature confirmation on the packages.

UPS has been "stealth" delivering shit lately for me too. No knock, no dingdong. Just drop and dash.

Some of my UPS deliveries have a required signature (age thing - snus/tobacco) and I have lost count of the number of times the fuckers have left a sticker on the door. A few times multiple people were home (not necessarily in the living room though), AND there's the dog. Anytime so much as a tree branch moves too much, no matter where she is in the house, she'll be at the front door barking. Actual people? Jumping and barking.

You mean to tell me you, Mr UPS Driver, actually knocked? And no, just looking at the door intently, perhaps breathing hard on it, is not knocking.
It's basically gotten to the point that the day I know that package is coming, I have to be keenly aware of any possibly loud truck going down the street, and I have to look every time to see if it's the UPS truck. If I happen to miss their approach, and he manages to not alert the dog, I will have no notification he has reached my door.

Next time, I think if I get the opportunity, I'll run to the door but step out of site of the glass. If I don't hear a knock, I'll look and wait to see when he's stepping away from the door (after sticking the note) and then run out there.
I'd be very surprised to actually hear a knock.

One time, I had to endure three delivery attempts (third time was the charm). It sucks when its usually predictable to be sometime after five (as much as I hate that when I'm home at 2 on the days I try and schedule it, and fear an early delivery). One day I was late getting home (3ish - truck broke down) and the note was on the window. I've never been so pissed as that day that UPS actually arrived before 5pm. Sometimes, I've had to wait till after 6:30 (terrible waste of a day off that one time, too afraid to leave the house and miss it).

Just wanted to post an update to this ordeal.

Amazon was awesome and replaced all my orders last week (They used Fedex for my replacements)

Then on Friday someone from my neighborhood stopped by and handed me 4 boxes - I think that's all the boxes I was missing (multiple orders were grouped into some of the boxes). They told me they never noticed them sitting there on their front porch until then! Weird... but all the boxes were unopened so who am I to question.

Anyway I reported this to Amazon and waiting to see what they want me to do with the boxes (I didnt open them). I assume I can bring them to the local UPS store and just have them returned there but I want to see what Amazon wants

And also it looks like UPS has learned from this too- I have received a couple of boxes already starting last week from UPS to my door again. The driver is someone new...

How do you not notice 4 boxes on your front porch... Hoarder?

There could be a stack of boxes on my front porch for weeks without me noticing. The carport is in the back, mailbox by street, and I rarely if ever use the front door/porch.

I hate how couriers sometimes decide to just leave packages there. Guess it's less work on their end so they just say "screw it!" and sign it themselves and don't have to bother with writing a note.

I'm always nervous about stuff that ships to my house when I'm not there because it's hit or miss. Sometimes they'll hold the package for me, other times they leave it outside in the open where it could be stolen. Lot of thieves in my area. It's considered a "nice" area so thieves tend to target those.

The best is packages that ship Canada Post. They always get held, and the post office is opened past 5:00 so I can still get it the same day if I work.

I'm always coming across packages on front steps of my customers houses for me, because I have a such a small front step, they'll leave it on the back deck.

I am sorry this is happening to you but it's really surprising to me. I know package theft is easy but I actually don't think it's really that common.

Month ago I ordered an external HD from newegg. UPS said they delivered it to my front door, but it was no where to be found. I probably get 30-40 packages a year and this is the first time one disappeared. If someone didn't steal it I don't know what happened to it.

Did you read post #22? Seems some of the drivers are dumber than you think.

get a camera set up, then you can capture UPS throwing your sh!t like this...
If you knew how many times your package was thrown before delivery...

Onto the truck at the factory in China.

Off the truck at the factory in China.

Onto the boat at the port in China.

I always get something lost/stolen in the mail ...
i can say 1 out of 10 packages .. ( refund all the way )...

I buy alot of crap, so its good to get my stuff stolen and rethink about buying another one or not ...

I would first right away expect the delivery guy.
I don't think the cost of installing a security camera system is really called for.
I know at this time of year they all hire a lot of part time delivery help, so watch out!!!!
Many use their own vehicles to deliver. Especially UPS.
Stuff/deliveries get totally screwed up.
I had a UPS box where tracking said "left at side door with woman".
No side door. No woman present at address.
So where did the package go????
Dropped at my door the next evening. I seen the UPS truck driving away.
Obviously he recorded a package delivered somewhere else the day before, as delivered to my address.
He got his addresses mixed up, i guess?
And that mysterious woman? She vanished into a cloud of smoke.
Smoke from whatever it was the UPS guy was smokin.

And just last week my amazon order showed my package delivered to an address in another state.
I called amazon and he was like ""WOW... I see that"".
He resend the items next day air at no charge.
And someone in another state got a nice free box of cat6 network patch cables.
Various lengths. Color coded.
Enjoy fella!

I'd talk to the delivery guy. Also how well do you know your neighbors? I am assuming a house. If you live in an apartment complex with a row of doors that carriers will leave packages in front of YMMV. I usually put special instructions in when I rented like that, sadly most online shops don't have a 'special intructions' section anymore.

That said, I ordered a USB to Serial adapter in March 2012. Never got it, but showed delivered. I wasn't going to fight over $15. Ordered another in May prior to needing it again. Last week it showed up on my desk (I sent it to my office). I had sent emails out to the office at the time about it...no one responded. No one knows who left it.

thats a stupid response....
I know that when i park my car in the garage i don`t bother with the front door. Maybe for even a couple of days. All my mail is put through the slot in the door......

Sorry for insulting your house entry/exit habits.............

I don't have a garage, so walk through the porch daily. However, I would have expected someone to sweep the porch, a friend to walk by the porch, watering the front lawn and glancing at the porch, mowing the lawn and glancing at the front porch, looking out the front window that may have a view of the front porch, taking a dog for a walk and walking by the porch, going for a walk and walking by the porch and flancing at the porch even from the sidewalk, having a neighbour tell you that you have something on your porch...

So sorry man.........
