Some stupid funny thing I notice about the class computer expert

Some kid in my class said he knew a lot about computers (self proclaimed computer expert), and while helping my teacher out with some research on the web, he started to type in the entire URL for everything "http://www.etc....". I thought it was funny considering this guy types in the entire URL everytime he browses.

That is funny. My parents do that, but they're definitely not computer experts. I'm too lazy to teach or tell them otherwise though.

You should call him out, and say, "You know, you only have to type in www.djaglk," or something like that.

I do, too. What's your point? I don't rely on my web browser to be smarter than me.

I used to do that purely out of habit (sometimes still do). Implicitly adding "http://" or even "www." wasn't a feature that existed in any of the first web browsers.

I can't believe there are people with big enough self-esteem issues that they are willing to criticize someone for doing what they really should be doing anyway.
What next, we make fun of people for typing with all 10 fingers?

I would think reading ATOT should be sufficient evidence of the magnitude of self-esteem issues extant in the world today.

Better yet, tell him to type google and hit ctrl+enter.

Umm, I dont think you are supposed to use the left thumb. Therefore, you are supposed to type with 9 fingers. I could be wrong though. I dont type properly anyway.

I don't know, I mean if he was an incredibly fast typer, what would it matter? But not having that information I would have to say he is probably of normal typing speed. It's also possible that he doesnt do that each and every time? I doubt the observations were scientifically done (rate of type, amount of times typed this way, keyboard type, proxy server settings, browser used, O/S used, hotkeys being used, etc...) Maybe he does differently at home? Maybe he thought someone in the class might observe his actions and proclaim that "http://" was necessary abruptly. Why are we even annylizing this guy? Did some gratification come from putting this guy down? Whatever gets you through the day...

BTW hitting CTRL+Enter does not work on all browsers and even the latest IE doesnt always have the feature enabled. Here at working using IE6.0 and higher, that feature is disabled by default on our images, for what purpose, I am not sure. I would give someone the benefit of the doubt till proven otherwise that they may just be used to not using such a key combination... Like Mozilla users or etc...

Also, knowing how to use CTRL+Enter doesnt make one an expert, or knowing the need for http:// being unnecessary for that matter.

For those that havent gotten it yet, search for Sarcasm somewhere in there....

This guy types in the ENTIRE URL, i.e. he ACTUALLY types "http://www.google.com" whereas if you know ANYTHING about an Internet browser, you only need to type in "www.google.com" or "google.com."

WoWeeee!!! you could aslo just type google and press ctrl-enter.
