If you have any friends or family in law, ask them to recommend someone. If not, I would call someone who does civil claims (I think?) and ask them what they think. If nothing else, I think they could refer you to a buddy of theirs who can handle your case.

I am really sorry to hear about your son. However this kind of things happen. I keep a low front on Ahimsa but there have been times when I had to strike back. I can possibly say why this happened but it may not be right.

As for attorney's as a few family friends if they know some, else check an attorney refferal service. They can guide you to one. However the two most importatant things right now is:
1. you son gets better
2. you get all teh data and file a suit and possibly get one of the group to squeal on the rest. However that is at a later stage.

Earlier in the thread, Frenchie offered his assistance. Contact him... lawyers network like crazy. He would have access to resources that you and I would not and quite possibly he could point you in the right direction.

I had something similar happen to me when I was 13. I was invited to a party by some rich boys (with older brothers) and when I got there and realized no other girls were showing up and the parents weren't around that I was in trouble.

I don't like to talk about it, but I will say this: I didn't tell my parents because I knew my dad would have gone over there with his gun and blew the bastards away. That was all I could think of... not what had happened to me, but what would have happened to my family if I had said anything.

It is such a hard thing to realize that there is such evil in the world. I am so, so sorry Unexpurg8d! I know that as a parent, you want to protect your kids from everything, but you just can't.

Keep a steady course and go after them, one step at a time.

Isla, I am so sorry - there aren't the right words to tell that little 13 year old girl how much I feel for her. It's amazing that so many people exist with out a sense of right and wrong, and a total lack of conscience.

YES! Some satisfaction. The police officers were just at the house, and there will be warrants issued charging the kids with assault with a deadly weapon and larceny (they stole his pager while they were beating him).

Apparently their possession of the pager - unbelievable that they were dumb enough to go get it from one of the boys who'd left the scene then drive back and return it to the police! - convinced the police that they were lying about what happened. That and the pictures from the hospital of what was obviously a kid beaten by more than one person. The kids used one of those flexible collapsible metal batons that leave really distinct marks.

Again, thank you all so much for the support. This was a long and tough day after a long, tough night, and your words of encouragement and caring really helped - more than I can say.





Btw, I owe the police officer at the scene an apology - he was right to not accept my son's story until it had been proven, and I was wrong in jumping to conclusions about the police officer's behavior. Tough to be reasonable when you've just returned from the hospital after spending the night there with your kid, though. Bad me. Being a cop is a sucky job, and an underappreciated one.

I am so glad to hear that you are now getting the proof that you need to mount a case.

Please watch your son carefully, especially mood swings. Talk to him about how he feels about them (the people who attacked him), not just now but over the next several months. He will most likely have nightmares, and also dreams of revenge, which will be normal. I know what he is about to go through, and the physical healing is the easiest and just the beginning of his ordeal. He will go through mentally much more than the physical wound that one can see.
