I got my 17" monitor stretched as far as it could at 1152*864@85Hz. I have it set to large font, so I can see the characters good without having to go down to 1024*768. I would like to have as much room to work as possible, because it is easier to write report and such when I can have the report on one side while the webpage I'm researching on at the other side. This monitor does not give me enough room and I wanna a new monitor. I'm looking into 17" or 19" LCD or 19 or 21" CRT. 17" LCD gives you about the same room as 19" CRT and correspondingly, 19" LCD same as 21" CRT, correct?
I would like some suggestion on which type and which specific model I should get. I'm looking to spend no more than $850.
Questions are:
Does LCD let you use many different resolutions like CRT will let you? I would like to stretch it to limit and use large font mode
How does contract, color quality and sharpness compare to CRT?
I really don't want any dead pixels. Whats the chance I'll get annoying dead pixels?
Update:
Question on CRT
If you think I should get a CRT, I am considering either Iiyama or Mitsubishi. I think these are the best as far as letting you tweak the smallest distortions out. I'm currently using a Mitsubishi 17" and its pretty good. Got a 17" Sony somewhere in basement. No more Sony!
