Some political yard signs in my neighborhood

Now that we know the amount of political yard signs you see out of the right passenger window of your car while driving to work on Thursdays doesn't mean a fucking christ-foresaken thing, I want to never fucking hear about them again, for the love of whatever you think is important.

What? Do you and Smerconish need to get a room now? Bothsides.
I don’t know? I know the name. I don’t know his stance on anything. I have not heard I’m or even his name in years and years. It was my teacher who first illuminated that truth is 280 degrees from where people look.and that humanity is tempting extinction from a catch 22. There is nothing wrong with anybody but we believe we are the worst in the world and are so fearful of facing those feelings we will kill to keep them suppressed. In this way our salvation becomes impossible. I guess my luck was that I was so miserable anyway the truth wasn’t any worse.

I live in the UK, we dont do that shit here.

Yeah we do. I'm sure you've seen those arseholes putting up England flags. There are reams and reams of FB comments in defence of it, usually in two varieties: "it's just a flag!" and "I'm not racist, but..."

I had a customer recently start with the first one and then in a totally unrelated question, she asked, "why do male immigrants arrive first, followed by the rest of their family", in a "I don't get that, there's something very suspicious about it" tone. I suggested that maybe when one has a family to provide for, one wants to make sure that one can make a good enough living to provide for said family in the destination country and to make sure it's reasonably safe before introducing their family to potential danger. "Oh"

So over there flying the England flag is associated with certain political views?

In the US, if you are flying a flag you are likely Republican Conservative.

I am going to go out on a limb here and say not just a repub conservative but a far-right maga conservative.

And this is a problem. The rest of America needs to reclaim our national symbols from the fascists.

I just bought a new one. The previous one shredded during a storm last fall. I usually get 2-3 years before I have to replace the flag.
I noticed that my telescopic flagpole has a bit of lean to it. Gonna have to dig up the base and straighten it. MIGHT even pour some concrete around it.

There are exceptions though.
Then again, I may be completely wrong.

I live in the Bay area and people flying American flags on their property is uncommon/rare.

It certainly is now (if it wasn't always the case, I suspect it was). I was going to say "unless you're a government organisation or say the King", but they would all be flying union jacks. Fuckwits have also been doing quick spray-paint jobs of the English cross on random walls along the street, road signs and even the tarmac of a motorway.

This is the first house we’ve ever had with an actual flagpole. In the past, we always had the ones that mount to the side of the house. I’ve flown an American flag for most of 50 years. (except when we lived in an apartment)

These folks want to free Scotland, Wales, and occupied Ulster from English tyranny? Seems like a weird way to express English tribalism but okay.

A trumper out in the burbs near my sis, they had an OG version of the American Flag - I mean the one with just thirteen stars for the original colonies.

I was going to knock and the door and ask - so you like to remember the glory days of slavery and women having zero rights?

Re England flags - one small but notable exception: When England is playing football.

As usual with racists, they didn't think it that far through 🙂

Your flag is upside down, hoss.
The asymmetry of the American flag has always bothered me. After spending quite a bit of time reading European history, I think the original intent was that we should have been updating the flag as we expanded our realm just as European houses added junk to their banners as they conquered/married into other houses.

It's not just the asymmetry. A major pet peeve of mine is that it really, really bothers me seeing the military wear a patch with the stars on the right and stripes on the left. It just feels extremely anti-american. It would bother me less if it were upside down.

The stars lead, leaving a trail of blood and surrender in their wake.
