Some people never learn - Rodney King arrested for DUI

Rodney King seems to be by all accounts a pretty scummy individual.

Doesn't really make the police brutality back in 1991 any better though.

Same thing Bush did. *He* got a slap on the wrist - and was able to cover it up and almost get elected President, with the help of his lawyer, Alberto Gonzales.

Bush knew who to turn to for AG when he needed a lawyer who would do as he was told, after Ashcroft wouldn't say yes to just any practices of surveillance and torture.

Extra bonus, the extra corruption of our Justice Department with US attorneys expected to file baseless charges against Democratic candidates before elections if directed.

Ya, it's off topic, but a thread to basically point at a black guy and say 'ha ha' doesn't really need the topic to be stuck to IMO.

After you get the crap beat out of by a bunch of cops, wouldnt it be a good idea to straighten your life up?

King has been arrested for possibly driving while impaired.

So far he has gotten in trouble in:

1991
1996 for a hit-and-run involving his wife
2004 to reckless driving and driving under the influence of a controlled substance

None of which is an excuse for police brutality. Those who abuse their power as law enforcement should never be allowed to be in law enforcement ever again.

Sounds like he needs another beating.

BTW, the ass-kicking he received was not police brutality. When you assault cops while high on PCP you can expect unpleasant things to happen to you.

Yeah, that's why two of the officers spent more than 2 years in federal prison over it. I'm sure they were sentenced under that 'not police brutality' law.

Oh please, those poor guys were railroaded. They were properly acquitted by a state jury, but then in order to satisfy the whiners the DOJ went after them again. Rodney King's long record of criminality shows that they should have beaten him harder, maybe a more thorough ass-kicking would have straightened him out.

Yes, protection against savage beatings by the police should be based upon whether or not you have been previously convicted of a crime. This is a really great idea, any other ones you want to share with us?

Ohhh and now of course the fact that the guys went to prison was that they were victims of a conspiracy, not that they were caught on tape beating the shit out of some guy far and above what was necessary to apprehend him. Whatever you need to tell yourself.

Rodney King is an alcoholic and suffered brain damage in his beating 20 years ago. In interviews he strikes me as a surprisingly bright, decent guy, but he certainly has some demons. What happened to him 20 years ago certainly didn't help - in a way he's a combination of a traumatized victim of a violent crime victim and an unsophisticated lottery winner, neither of which tend to do well over time.

I have handled police brutality cases from both the plaintiff's and defense side. Frankly I think when someone leads the police on an unnecessary high-speed chase the way Rodney King did, a whack on the head might be just what the doctor ordered. That said, he was tortured and beaten relentlessly for several minutes, long after he was completely incapable of fighting back. Only an asshole would claim this was a justifiable use of force by the police.

If he'd just stopped resisting then they would've stopped hitting him.

Police are required to use reasonable and appropriate force to compel compliance. I see no way that the force those cops used on him was either reasonable or appropriate.

It turns out a jury agreed with me, which is why two of them spent some well deserved time in federal prison.

He was slightly over the legal alcohol limit, not high on PCP. The police also allegedly beat King's passengers after they immediately complied and were handcuffed. I see you've done extensive research on this case.

Maybe you dumb fucks who support police brutality should watch the video. The initial baton strikes were certainly warranted since King was violently resisting, but the police continued to viciously beat and stomp him long after he stopped fighting back. King deserved a day in court for his crimes, not multiple skull fractures and internal organ damage.
