Some people have all the luck -- friends got accidentally delivered a 22" LCD

My friends just got a package delivered to their house, apparently delivered to one of the past residents (though they don't know for sure; they don't have forwarding information, and are just guessing it is a previous resident, since the address is theirs).

The package? A refurb Apple 22" Cinema LCD and a brand new iBook (the 14.1", I believe). The kicker? They weren't there to sign for the package; the delivery company just dropped it off, and no return address is listed. No contact information is listed.

It's sitting in their foyeur right now, and they're not sure what to do -- they're far from a group of morally challenged people, and were they to have some easy way to return it, I know they would. They're still puzzling over what to do, though. 😛

They don't even know if it was UPS who delivered it. I stared at the box and didn't see any obvious packing slips, etc.

Who delivered it? If it was Fedex or UPS they would have the address of the shipper and could look it up via the tracking number.

If postal service, and no return addy, as well as not tracking, what can you do? Free stuff in the mail you did not solicit is actually FREE!

In Oregon if you get something you didn't order, it's YOURS. 🙂

I don't know the laws up in Wash. though.
That is true in most states I think, but that's if it is addressed to YOU. If the name on the package is somebody else's, I don't think that's the case.

Even if that is the case, he didn't sign the package so he can claim when got home it was not there, someone steel it

It's depressing to see how many people on AT condone theft.

Entity, it's heartening to know that your friends are trying to find the proper way to return this merchandise to its proper owners.

Nah, he doesn't use Macs, I'm saying it's from Satan.

Anyways, if there's a way to return it by all means do so, I would want somebody to return my equipment if there was a shipping mix up. However if it's impossible to determine who's it was, then yeah, keep it.
