ya ... this is pissing me off. We'll see how things go per this log.

Previous discussion:
http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2405957

So, I got the F80 from Sole after some limited research. I figured for hte use it is getting it will last an easy 3+ yers and even if out of warranty it is easily fixable.

I am getting sporadic low speed (LS1) errors after 30 minutes of use. The fix according to Sole is to rerun calibration. I did that twice. And it still errors out on me. I sent support an e-mail and told them they have 48 hours to make me happy. This will be my official log to see what occurs.

Oh, I'd imagine the F63 which is popular also has this problem.

This sucks because my research said the treadmill is solid except for the rollers which have crappy bearings that will fail eventually. For consumer grade Sole is pretty good. The thing is, the rollers are easily replaceable under warranty. And if not under warranty, you can get upgraded bearings for the rollers (which are the problem) via various bearings suppliers (there are standard sizes for these things) when the bearings do fail.

But I am mostly pissed that this thing does not work after carrying the 250+ pound unit into my house and putting it together. So they better not F me over because I know where Anandtech lands on results searches on Google. Either way, I am getting a treadmill and it is not going to be at any extra cost on my part.

UPDATE 1: (11/3)
Called their tech support. They are sending out a new motor controller and wiring harness that runs through the metal tubular arms. This is via FedEx with tracking number. Then a tech will come to my house and make the repair. I'm hoping that things are fixed by Friday but it might not be till early next week that things are fixed.

From reading online, I've read that some have had to get this repair done more than once. And I've also read that some have had it fixed once and it has worked great since. These problems go back 4+ years as evidenced by people on various forums talking about it. I'd have to imagine that hardware revs of the controller have improved the failure rates and that I am one of the few with bad luck. I plan on asking the tech what the failure rates are on Sole machines as I am assuming that the tech guy is a general gym equipment repair type person.

UPDATE 2: (11/3 night time, 11/4 morning)
Got home from work and my wife said that the treadmill is working fine. The kids used it for 30 minutes and she used it for a while. No error occurred. On the morning of 11/4 it ran fine for 10 minutes before my kids had to go to school. I tried forcing the error by adding resistance to the belts movement and that didn't stop it. Still having the tech come to my house though to see what he has to say. I'm hoping to keep the motor controller in case this happens again in a few years.

UPDATE 3: (11/4 night)
Repair parts shipped today. The treadmill is still working.

The soles are basically the same as the spirits I recommended (built by the same chinese manufacturer) I am not quite sure why you went with the F80 over the S77. folding treadmills are junk IMHO and seeing that the 77 is only about 200 bucks more and offering solid base, bigger motor, and bigger display it would seem like the better option

Bought what Dicks sells. S77 is not availalble.

Well, it might begetting returned so we'll have to see.

What should I expect when i go to Dicks and tell the Mgr to come to my house and take it away? I want them to box it up and everything. T-minus 47 hours.

Oh,as asoftware engineer with an EE degree and embedded systems background I am tempted to prototype a treadmill and hit up kick starter. I'm sickof the packaging that occurs with products these days. I just want quality without the BS features.

They didn't offer delivery and setup? I think I paid $50 for mine. Made sure it was all good before they left. Not sure what you should expect given your situation

Really? Wow .....

Ya, it worked for 30 minutes as I said in the OP then the errors started. So how would paying for delivery/setup changed anything?

I would think if you paid them to deliver setup and you had issues they would be much more inclined to come get it.

if you had to assemble, I could see them saying you f^cked up the install... or, we will take it back, but you need to bring it back with all packaging

I was reading the guarantee that came with my treadmill. You need the packaging to return it. Sole will not take back a treadmill without packaging. They also require that you package it and have it ready for them to pick up. They go as far as to say that it should be outside or in your garage at time of pickup.

Not sure if this is what Dick's would do. I'd try to have them pick it up but if I had to take it back, I would. Because at that point, I'd simply want it to stay nice cosmetically but I could care less if it twisted somehow and broke internal parts.

Any ... an update is coming in the OP.

sounds like they should take care of it for you!

Strange thing today is I got home and my wife said that the kids have been playing with it for 30 minuites with no problems. She spent maybe 10 minutes on it.

Starting to wonder .... circuit panel is 12 gauge wire to the outlet. Probably 60 feet of cable. From there it is a 16 gauge extension cord. And then the actual plug. I wonder if hte extension cord is causing some voltage drop ..... hrm .... Might need to try a different cable if errors occur again.

best to have it plugged directly into the wall. avoid the extension cords if possible. if not, at least use same gauge as the mills cord

Ya, I might grab a new cord today at HD. I think the wall wire is 12 awg. I think I have a12' 16 gauge ext cable right now. Need to find a heavy duty 6 footer.
