Sold my 2007 C230. Getting a 2010 Mazda 3.

I got rid of my mercedes, the thing was far too costly and troublesome to own. Nice looks and ride but the cost of maintenance and repair was through the roof. I sold it and am picking up a new 2010 Mazda 3 iSport, white with basic features (A/C, power windows, am/fm/cd/mp3) for $17,100 out the door with 0% APR for 60 months. Any opinions on this car and did I get a good deal or screwed? Zoom zoom.

Curious, what issues did you have with the C230? I ask because my older brother just purchased one and was curious of the costs.

Great financing, but more than average buy price, unless that included tax and fees.

Hey you got a smiley...the happy car. We have good results with the Mazda 3, nothing out of the ordinary as far as maintenance...though I'm not exposed to the mechanicals too much, I just do the performance eval. Its a peppy car, they've loosened up the steering on this model refresh, but the accuracy is just as good as the previous gen.

Unfortunately, Mazda still does the pubes on cardboard, carpet and headliner interior, which coming from a Mercedes should be the first thing you notice.

no problems with my mom's 2010 and my speed3 is running really well after 23k of hard driving - even the trims are < 5%. 17 OTD is ok, might have been able to go a little lower. Got a speed3 + iTouring for ~39k OTD.

What kind of problems were you having with your C230? It's a given that German cars are going to cost more to maintain (with the rare exception that you do it yourself).

It was 17,100 after tax + all fees. The C230 I had only had 49k miles on it and it started showing signs of electrical problems. The left mirror blinker light would intermittently come on/off. The computer would sometimes show the engine light and after I had a mercedes dealership look it over, they concluded nothing was wrong but I was still out several hundred dollars. An oil change alone was in excess of $200 for Type B service at a dealership. It also started pulling to the right and I was told by a service tech that this was common for the 2007 C230's and that also cost me an additional $250 (most places wanted $500) to get squared away. A car with 49k miles shouldn't start costing so much money just to maintain thus I decided to go back to owning Japanese cars. I also own a 1991 Toyota MR2 turbo with 164k miles on it and it still works great to this day. The only thing wrong with it is the A/C motor which I had to replace.

Ah that pube carpeting look? Man I hate that.

I would never buy the lowest grade car from any company.

Not sure of your logic there...but the C class is not the lowest grade car Mercedes makes. A class if your speaking purely "Mercedes" and Daimler as a company makes Smart vehicle. The C class is hardly "lowest grade" in my book.

He might be referring to the Mazda. I don't care if it's their lowest grade or not, it's been getting favorable reviews online. Edmunds ranks it as their top pick.

Even Mazda has a cheaper car (2) and the Mazda 3 is a fantastic car for the segment if you're cool with the looks.

That gen of C class seem to have more problems than most. I'd still love a low mileage C55 even with an automatic.

Congrats on the new 3 though, they're nice little cars.

Nice price for the Mazda! The oil change sounds like typical stealership prices, an indie would charge about 1/4 that price. For the pulling issue, did they simply do an alignment or was it something more serious? Thanks!

That mercedes would have started screwing you, but $200 for oil change is a known maint. issue. it sounds like the only real ones were the alignment and that weird blinker thing. Mazda 3 will definitely be less problematic, though.

I would not touch a Benz below E 😛 Ok, maybe a AMG C 😎

The B,C were created as more affordable MBs.

Thanks! The C230 was a very nice car overall. It just wasn't for me, at least not at this point in my life (still in med school). Maybe once I finish residency I'll buy a new one..maybe lol.

I think they replaced a part but I don't remember what it was. It wasn't just a simple alignment.

My mom and sister love our iTouring. Did you get the 5spd manual? (looks like you got the 5sp auto from the price)

I was debating whether to go with a manual or auto. Ended up choosing auto because I like to take long drives and my MR2 was always a headache for that kinda thing. Plus nobody else in my family drives manual so it would be an inconvenience for them should they need the car.

The deal is set so I'll be signing the papers tomorrow and then picking up the car day after tomorrow. Pretty excited about it!

Hah, that's one of the best parts of owning a standard if you ask me! Saved me from countless trips to Target and the grocery store when I was in college. None of my roommates drove standard!

Congrats on the Mazda though! My buddy has an '08 3 Speed and it's one sexy car!

My mom put 55K on her c class with one $400 expense. Odd that yours would act up, those things are pretty bullet proof.

Update: Got my mazda 3 in white and love it! I wish I had gone with the touring package so I could've had an alarm + power locks but other than that, the car is great. It handles perfectly, accelerates quite well for a 4 cylinder car, good gas mileage, looks good (interior layout is very nice for the price) and is fun to drive.

grats! I love the white, if they sold the speed in white I would have gotten that instead of the blue.

Mazda3 drives and handles like much more expensive cars. Not surprising, since the platform is also used on Volvo.
