Men who have sex with other men in prison who would otherwise be "straight" either do it for dominance (like all people who rape) or for sexual release through human contact (which, as you may not know, is not replaceable by masturbation). 😛

This is a good reminder to publicize a charity who fights prisoner rape and has done a lot of good, www.justdetention.org.

I absolutely detested Molly Ivins, but when Texas passed its anti-sodomy laws she said something hilarious. The two co-sponsors were slapping each other on the back; she said "I'm sorry, but you're both under arrest. Under Texas' new law it's illegal for a prick to touch an asshole."

Back on topic, I think dropping DADT should be purely a military consideration: does the military gain more than it loses by openly admitting gays? The one openly gay guy I've known well served honorably in the Navy, and I have a great deal of sympathy for those few who serve honorably for years before being inadvertently outed and discharged. (There should really be an additional don't, don't notice if it's not a problem.) But of the actual warriors I know - not the admittedly essential electricians and JAGs and S4 types, but artillerymen and infantrymen and Rangers and cav troopers - if the topic comes up the overwhelming majority have expressed intention to leave if gays are openly allowed to serve. That even includes a couple who served with gays, the feeling being that openly admitting gays will allow in the problem gays. Things are changing - the rural southern high school I attended, where gay was the absolute worst thing one could be (and indeed something that most of us didn't really believe existed except as a slur), turned into a place where there were openly gay kids in my son's class and it was considered no big deal, like being Goth or punk. I think gays openly serving will come about within the next decade either way, but I'd hate to see the military lose a big portion of its sharp point simply because one party wants to make political points by pushing it early.

The people who want to be able to own all the guns they desire, but then in the same breath say that certain sexual acts between consenting adults shouldn't be allowed.. for example. That's hypocritical. I think adults should be able to own whatever guns they want *and* engage in whatever consensual activity they want with other adults.
