socket 754 mobos below $90

I just took a quick glimpse through the list, but the mobos with the K8T800 chipset should be OK. Keep in mind though, you're not getting a whole lot in a $90 motherboard - the MAIN board of the system.

hmm...what is "ok"

i'm mainly using it for gaming and i'm wondering if the K8T800 boards will make my performance significantly worse than the better boards such as the DFI lanparties, MSI Neo4 platinum, abits, asus's, etc.

i won't be OCing

I'm happy with my Neo Platinum. The Asus K8N-E Deluxe is another nice NF3 board.

would that your neo platinum be the same as the "msi k8n neo-fsr" listed on monarch

kepp in mind i need something from monarch, not just random suggestions (like the guy that said a lanparty for an extra $15, which i couldn't find on march since they only had a $80~ one and a $125~ one)

Keep in mind that with the A64 using an integrated memory controller, there's not a huge performance difference between boards. It's all about what features you want, and if you trust the board's maker.

ah! thx

so there wouldn't be a big difference if i get a $80 Sock754 asus/abit/msi (brands i trust) mobo than if i get a $150 socket 939 MSI neo 4 platinum pci-e mobo because i'm still deciding between either an $80 S754 or a $150 sock939 (keep in mind i DO want to save money, but if there's a big performance jump, i'm all for the $150 board)

also, via boards and nForce boards are essentially the same performance wise?

At stock speeds, you probably wouldn't notice a big difference. I'm happy with the o/cing options of my Nforce3 board though. The semi-working PCI/AGP locks are a nice feature, and I think they are hit/miss on the Via boards.

The msi k8n-neo fsr has two less sata ports and no firewire as compared to the platinum. Either version is a stable board , I would recommend.

If you arent going to oc, there is no reason to pay more for the DFI lanparty. Plus the MSI has oc features, just not as extensive as the DFI.

Once we start comparing S754 and S939 boards, everything goes out the window. The S939 CPUs support dual-channel memory, whereas the S754's only do single-channel, so the 939's usually end up on top. The "it's all the same" comparison is only good for boards using the same socket.
