And to be honest, I wouldn't ever want contact with the people who are generally at ballroom dances. (Old people who should be in Florida)

If it is, then people who come from ballroom suck miserably even at ECS.

EDIT: The first couple minutes of the video probably shows the best of the blues dance itself... After that, they kinda go off the wall. Nevermind, really after the first minute they go off the wall. A lot of it is off the wall, but the general ideas are in there. (They were experimenting anyway)

Wow. You are clueless. I used to date a pretty hot russian girl who was part of the MIT Ballroom Dance team. They competed all around. You would have thought you would have joined your school's team/club. No old people to be found.

You are correct that most ballroom dances are of an older crowd and swing dances are usually a college age crowd. I'm often around people 2 or 3 generations older than me. But I met my young attractive wife at one.

The reality is most dancers (ballroom or not) suck. It isn't an easy task. The swing-only locations of course are generally going to have higher quality swing dancers. They only learn a half dozen dances, and those dances borrow quite a bit from each other. I came from a ballroom background and I've had lessons in about 30 distinct dance styles. So of course, the jack of all trades isn't as perfect in any one skill as the specialist. But, I bet I'm better at ECS than many people who come from swing-only clubs.

Looks pretty much like a mix of argentine tango and rumba. The dancing isn't too far from what the tango dance bar looks like around here. But, thanks for the link as I haven't see that exact combination.

Trident did you get served?

Nope. So far all I am hearing are people denying the truth. There has only been one person defending swing being a ballroom dance. There have been two or more who think a lot of young ladies go ballroom dancing (LOL AS IF). Hardly statistically significant. What's even more astonishing is the one who defends swing as ballroom says that old people are in ballroom by far more.

geez, it's like 5 min...

you understand just walking onto the dance floor and flail around is not dancing right?

this looks like a clearer link

there is boobage later on in the film. just watch it 😛

Why do professional dancers wear pants that go up to their armpits? Answer me that one. It's like completely the opposite of being ghetto and sagging your drawers. Maybe that's why? Looks pretty ghey.

Costume to create the illusion of longer legs? I am guessing here.

That is the dance of the matador. The woman wearing the red dress is the matador's cape. To answer your question we need to answer this one: why do people who stab bulls with little spears wear pants that go up to their armpits?

Lol, does she have a dance partner that is not you? Ruh roh! Swarthy latin man has his hands all over your lady...not good.

She has a dance group she goes with. There are two guys she dances with in that group. One is gay and the other is married.

She'll occasionally dance with other people, which bothered me a bit in the beginning, but I've gotten over it. I trust her and I know she's just dancing because she loves dancing, not to meet or flirt with other guys.

At least you are not being dragged to it right? 😛

I've gone a few times. I don't really enjoy it and I feel bad dragging my girlfriend down with my inability to dance. She really lights up and has fun when she's dancing with somebody good. Dancing is one of her main avenues of enjoyment.

Careful. I lost my first wife that way.

We both went dancing a lot, but she was a dance instructor and had many more chances to dance than I did. The gay guy (her competitive dance partner) turned out to not be gay afterall. It is amazing that a straight guy would successfully pretend to be gay ballroom dance instructor, but it worked for him. Since about half of male ballroom dance instructors are actually gay, I didn't question it at first. They are married now with a small child.

If my girlfriend is the type to do that, at least I'll find out sooner than later since she'll have the ability to meet more guys with her dancing.

You should sit there and watch then.

lol. I forgot about the whole gay ballroom dancers thing. That stereotype is non-existent in swing as far as I've seen.

? I don't look stereotypically gay. We've all nailed that down. I look like someone who is very straight and very much not getting laid even though he is straight.

There is no stereotypical gay look. There is a flamboyant flamer look but most gay people are not like that.

You're ultra thin, right? Whine and cry like a woman, right? Have never kissed a woman, right?

You're missing the point. Badly.

Ultra thin doesn't mean gay in my eyes. I see tons of skinny fugly nerds (myself most frequently) that aren't remotely fashionable-looking and hence not remotely stereotypically gay.
