Damn if a Akita's that aggressive to a cat I hate to see what it would do to a child.

P.S. I still think he's FOS and made it up :p
You've never seen an Akita have you? (Or I guess you made that obvious).
Akitas aren't Poodles or Labradors and the differences are obvious at first sight. Why don't you google for an image? An Akita looks like a mix between a Husky and a Rottweiler. That the dog would kill the cat should have been obvious to the GF (if the guy didn't tell her, which you don't know either).
Please don't post from ignorance.

Ignorance? Hahahahaha, so I am ignorant for giving my opinion on the story? Or wait, I'm ignorant because I made a statement that he didn't tell her outright that the dog would kill that cat, he obviously didn't; he NEVER mentioned it in the story, otherwise he would have to further prove his case that his GF is stupid.

I could say you're acting ignorant because you think I misunderstood the story because I didn't know what type of dog it was (WHEN HE EXPLAINED IT IN THE STORY FOR ANYONE WHO DIDN'T KNOW). :p

I'm sorry but its pretty clear I was going from the same amount of knowledge everyone else had when reading this story, I went from what he told us and analized it and formed an opinion. If I'm ignorant because of that, so is everyone else in this thread... including you.

I didn't know what an Akita was and I thought house pets were trained not to tear other animals to shreds... sort of considered that dangerous and all. You know... incase it confuses you for food or whatnot.

oh, you idiot. this is an akita. he said his dog was loud, and barked. okay, now, if you have a large dog like that who barks and is VERY antisocial, then you DO NOT put a kitten in the same house. and don't tell me the girlfriend couldn't have known - there is no way she could not have known. you're an ignoramus.

he DOESNT NEED TO TELL HER that the dog is fierce - the first time the gf came over, she would've seen that. he TOLD HER no cats. she gets one anyways?

people like his g/f tick me off. as do people who defend people like his g/f. like you. stop breathing.

The parents knew about the kitten, he said that didnt he?

Well, as if today's horror story was not enough, the family of my girlfriend "dropped by" today to see how everyting was going. Keep in mind that they know what has happened today. Let me set up the scenario.

and

They know what has happened with the cat, (but apparently think the blood is from me beating or killing their daughter) and the first thing they see is me on the phone, and five guy's in plastic suits cleaning up blood.

Stooping down to name calling? OH NO I have an opinion. This reminds me of when I met this hick that no matter what you would tell him, he would stand his ground on his opinions just because he was too stubborn to think it in the view of another person. Grow up, people have opinions... people view things differently... its part of life.

Akitas are members of the INU family which have personalities much like our terriers.

As Terrier types, they usually do not get along with other animals well. Now before all the retards say "NONONO I have an akita and 4 cats they get along fine." Let me say you are lucky. I had an Akita and 4 cats, they got along well also, but that is not typical and usually ends up being a mixed breed instead of pure Akita. Jack Russell Terriers are small versions and in the Polo community I used to live, they'd kill family cats too sometimes.

Just because a dog eats a cat, does not make it a child killer, that's another moronic belief.....however I would not recommend leaving any animal unattended with a child no matter how long you've had it and how docile it is....even a pug can cause a bite bad enough to maim or kill a baby/toddler. There are far more serious small dog bites than large dog ones....the thing is a large dog bite makes good news (bad news actually)...they like to sensationalize it.

Now the G/F and her family are the typical over-reacting morons that roam the planet. The mother is lucky the dog wasn't truly dangerous. Pretty smart thing to do thinking your daugther just got eaten....enter the home of the beast that did it and hide behind a typical hollow interior door.

Too bad for the kitty.

I want an akita now.... The pictures of them on the internet I found are so awesome. Gonna talk to the wife about it. We need to get rid of the bird though. I had previously always wanted a wolf.. Hopefully one with a green and a blue eye.. Saw one as a kid and have wanted one ever since.

The guy was definitely stupid not to tell his GF outright that his DOG would kill her cat if she brought it to his house.

But he did tell her not to do it and she did it anyway.

I get a bit irate, because I specifically told her not to bring a cat into my house.

and surprise the dog ate the cat. It's common sense that not all animals get along. What will most dogs do when there's a cat around? Chase it and try and kill it, it's instinct. My girlfriend had a dog that was the nicest, smartest dog I ever met. If there was a cat in the yard, the thing got manic and would start barking out the window and if you opened the door, forget it, she was gone! This sounds a lot like the woman who dumped the McDonalds coffee in her lap and got burned. The only response can be DUH!

Akita thefts are kinda common. (happened to a friend of mine) But they are fairly stiff headed animals that will react when a problem arises. This makes them good guard dogs, but not dogs that get along with others. They aren't overly agressive in nature and typically follow orders fairly well.

The GF and her family are just stupid.

Cliffnotes of the posts:
<GF> Lets get a kitten!
<Dude> I have an Akita.
<GF> I want a kitten!
<Dude> My dog and kittens don't mix.
<GF> We should get a kitten.
<Dude> My dog will eat that kitten.
*next day*
<Dude> Why are there cat toys here?
<GF> We got a kitten.
<Dude> Where is it?
<GF> Upstairs
*Dude notices that GF didn't latch the door properly, and upon noticing cat parts knows he was right
<Dude> You're outta here!
*later*
<Mom> Where's GF?
<Dude> Outta here.
*Mom become histerical
*phone rings*
<Dude> Here's GF on the phone.
*Mom runs INTO THE BLOODY HOUSE SCREAMING
*Dog goes to investigate
*Dude hands phone to Dad since Mom's gone nuts
*hijinks ensue*
<Dad> GF's on the phone!
*Dad breaks phone and runs over landscaping
*even later*
<Dad> Your dog should be put to sleep.
<GF> I want a restraining order.
<Mom> It's all your fault!
<Dude> You people suck!

Did I miss anything? :p

Akita's are not the best of family dogs. Ainu Dog, Hokkaido Dog, Ainu-Ken, Hokkaido Dog, Hakkaidoken, Shikoku, Kai Ken, Shiba, Jindo (korean), Kishu are similar and smaller breeds...but all have the same difficult mindset.....shibas are the #1 dog in Japan but most live in 1 dog families.

Except that this time, the hick is you.

2 things are obvious from your posts:
- you've never seen an akita or know anything about the breed
- you didn't read the posts

He told his GF she couldn't bring a cat into the house. We know this. Just because he didn't mention anything in his posts about telling her that the dog would kill the cat does not mean he did not tell her beforehand. Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. Trying basing your precious opinion on knowledge, not speculation.
The other issue is that if you had ever seen an akita or knew anything about the breed, you would know that they are cat killers. Don't get me wrong, they are great and beautiful dogs, good guard dogs that train well. But if a cat strays into their territory (a cat that had not been previously introduced to the dog by the owner), then there is a high likelihood that the dog will try to kill the cat. This does not mean that the dog would ever try to hurt a human or a child (although young children should not be left alone with ANY animal), it's simply in the dog's nature to defend its territory. Pit Bulls, Rottweillers, German Shephards, and many other dogs are the same way.

This whole problem began because his GF, against his explicit orders, brought a kitten into his house with his dog that was already there. The responsibility lies there and no where else. And who has suffered? Whose property, in the amount of some $20 grand, has been destroyed? Who has to now hire a lawyer because of the stupidity and irresponsibility of another who did what he told her not to? And who are you blaming?
Sometimes I think that people like you either have serious issues with comprehension, or you like to fsck people (or see people fscked) by your (or someone else's) own irresponsibility, or you're just plain trolls...
