Some background info....I built a dual opteron dual core machine using a tyan s2877 mobo. It worked great for about a week when it all of a sudden died and wouldn't do anything. After hassling around with Tyan i got an RMA, and now where we are today is I have the fixed mobo and on their packing slip/repair report the problem states "Transitor Burnt out, replaced transitor"

I have everything disconnected from the motherboard except for the core things to turn it on. I have a speaker connected but there is no beeps even with the memory all removed. I've tried just running one processor and swapping each one for the other. I don't have any others to try.

The last thing i did was take the heatsink off and turn the PC on and the processor started to get warm so i shut it off.

I'm using a PCI card for video and not getting any display yet it was working before. I have a PCI-E card to try but I have to wait till monday to get a DVI adpater then i can totally confirm there is no POST even though I'm not getting any error codes.

Do you think my CPU's could have been both fried from the problem that was repaired on the mobo?

Sorry for the long post, thanks for the help

"Transitor Burnt out, repalced transitor"
By the spelling, it looks like Tyan farms out their repair work.

Personally, I don't believe they fixed anything. What they should of done was sent you a new board.
You don't just replace one transistor, if in fact the board has any discrete transistors on it, and expect
it to work again. It would need to have been retested by a facility that does rework on boards.
Call them or email them and have them send you another board before you send them back the old one.
Next time, I would buy a really good name brand, like an ASUS or Gigabyte or ABIT ..
There are many other good ones out there.

I myself never heard of them until now. And as to how they handle
warranty claims, from the OP's experience with them, that would be
enough to make me not buy from them.

You probably wouldn't be buying a Tyan anyway, since they are mainly server/workstation boards. :p

I have had nothing but horrible experiences with tyan boards and their support. I will never buy one again.

Thats pretty much how i felt. For the price I paid for the board and the server quality it is suppose to be, I'm not impressed.

I would have picked a different brand but its hard to find dual opteron board with the dual PCI-E ports to run SLI/Crossfire support.

Ok got my DVI adapters so I could try another vid card, of course nothing works still.

So I called Tyan Tech Support, I told him the situation, and how I have had it stripped down to nothing. His first comments are try another power supply and swap memory. Then I told him I've done this about ten times already, he said he can't help and to contact RMA# for another number.

So now I'm waiting to hear back from RMA with a number. I asked them if I could get a board sent out ASAP instead of sitting here down for another 2wks.

Follow up.....

After contacting RMA, they told me they emailed me another number, so I waited a day never got it. They sent me another RMA, I asked for a board shipped now so I could get my server back up. I was told they didn't have any to ship now. Which made no sense. So I asked for a replacement board and not my fixed one back.

SO I sent mine 2 day USPS back to Tyan, took them 2 weeks to get me a replacement board.

Everything is installed and running F@H right now to break it in a little. Just trying to solve some ATI driver issues now.
