My business is currently taking off. I will most likely be a millionaire within the next 5 years. I will then be in my mid to late 20s and I will retire never lifting a finger the rest of my life.

Yeah sounds like a great plan cause life always goes as we plan, our health always stays well, we never have any payments to make and we can always afford everything we want. :disgust:

As for the richest person, isn't there this one person who started some company up and was in the newspaper and stuff?

If this post isn't shens, then I truly feel sorry for you. If you have lived 54 years and still believe you are defined by your work, you have lived a very shallow existence. I am 46, and have more than enough money to retire now if I wanted to, but I work because I want to stay active, but it is not what defines me. My family and friends are far more important to me than what I do for living. I strive to be a better person each day, providing support and encouragment to the people around me, while being true to my authentic self.

Remember, nobody has every said on their death bed, "I wish I spent more time at the office".

this is not meant to be an attack. I just wonder what your free-time (and how much of it do you have) is like...

I like "getting off work" by 5pm... having my own business is definitely not that way (I do have something in mind). I'd have to give up time with my wife and future kid if I went for it. Not to mention I can't do the extracurricular stuff (sports in leagues) either.

So what's your life like these days ? I wouldn't give up my younger years to retire early... not me personally.

If someone loves what they do and are paid well they are in a great position, IMHO. How do you know he is in an office? If I got paid to do what I really enjoy doing I wouldn't want to retire either.

Honestly, I have no free time. I work from the time I wake up to the time I go to sleep (I own two businesses, one to pay the bills, one to build a nest egg), seven days a week.

High school was the same as it was now, except I wasn't making hardly any money. 😛 But the information and connections I made were invaluable and if I had not sacrificed my entire youth I would not be headed the direction I am today.

My goal is to be retired with $2 million by age 26 (could be pushed to 28 at most if I run into any obstacles, which I have not so far), buy an apartment complex (that will net me about $150,000 a year, which is reasonable), build a modest house (around $250,000) and play on my computers all day.

The downside? I've only dated one girl in my entire life (even though I'm quite handsome and I'm usually hit on my most girls I meet). I've never been to a party, a club, or any large social gathering. Not many people would not do what I'm doing. Youth is too important for some, but money is more important for me.

I want to spend my late twenties, my 30s, my 40s, my 50s, and the rest of my life doing only the things I really enjoy. Decades of never being bothered with "appointments" or having someone else have authority over me (ie a boss). I can picture myself just slowly waking up each day, stumbling outside to get the paper, getting on my computer, not worrying about anything, for decades. I want the majority of my life to be spent in leisure.

Overall, the 100 hour weeks I put it now are worth it.
