^^ This. Even after paying the $12 premium you got stupid kids flipping up their cellphones to text during the movie, gets me so mad I want to grab their phones and smash them.

Name the movies? Because I am a serious movie buff. If this was a copy or as you imply a conglomeration of movies I would like to know which ones? Everyone has an opinion on what is the best movie ever made, but if there is a better one I sure haven't seen it.

Ouch... That is a lot of money.
I'm sure you get plenty of enjoyment out of all those dust collectors though.
Also, you can probably get a -95% return on investment if you ever decide to sell the collection at a yard sale.

I agree. I just use Netflix.

As for Avatar, no, I have no desire to rewatch the movie. It was entertaining but the small screen just doesn't compare to IMAX 3D. Not to mention it was extremely cliched and predictable. I was glad I saw it once but that was all I needed.
 
I was very tempted to order it off Amazon. However I am waiting for the special edition/directors cut to come out.

It was a very well-done movie, don't get me wrong. I enjoyed it.

But it was hardly original.

Please, don't tell me you completely missed the Pocahontas, Dances With Wolves, The Last Samurai, etc etc similarities.

The did a well-done production, but the story and characters were completely highly-stylized copies.

#1- For some reason I just like collecting movies.

#2- I really like to buy the DVD's when the extended/directors cut comes out. The Directors cut of Aliens and Terminator 2 is great. I love the extended edition of LOTR.

#3- I also like to take a peak at all the deleted scenes. I really loved the deleted scene in Star Trek of Spooks parents arguing.

#4- With kids sometimes it is useful to have that option of putting in a DVD and then you can get a 90min break.

Not sure if this is the case with Avatar, but Blockbuster recently had a 30 exclusivity with certain movies like Blind Side and Sherlock Homes where Netflix and Redbox weren't allowed to carry the movie during that time.

I didn't say I could justify $12 to go to a movie either, which I don't do very often. The amount of entertainment you get from a $25 BR is absolutely pathetic compared to other entertainment (games, TV...). I dunno.

I got an HDTV just a few months ago, and I had to get some blu-rays of course, but I picked up a few TV seasons because even those (while ridiculously priced) have better entertainment/$ than movies.

Well if you don't like watching movies, so be it.
Everyone has something they don't mind spending money on something, and you have to realize how long many people have had to buy DVD collections.

The total cost ends up being basically the same as watching the movie in the theater, especially if you wait for deals.

I've slowly been building up my Blu-ray collection. I just wait for deals.
Most movies, I easily watch more than a few times. I reserve rentals for movies I can almost guarantee I'll probably watch only once.

Some movies I have watched a handful of times already. I enjoy them. I certainly got the value of their purchase. Far better to buy it than to constantly rent them.
I refuse to stream movies, so stuff like Netflix streaming is out of the question.. too much of an audio/visual junkie. That is why I went with Blockbuster Online, because I can rent movies online, and if I want to watch a specific movie but don't fancy buying it, and want to watch is now, I return a previous movie at blockbuster and hope they have it in, or at least, pick a movie I want to watch that day.

Thing is, I rarely plan to so such and such movie. I'll get to feeling like watching a movie, then I stare at the movies I have and go "hmm, should watch this!"
Sometimes I buy movies when they are on sale, that I just know I will watch more than once (i know myself very well), even though I have not watched the movie before, or if I have it was forever ago. So I still have some movies I haven't watched in my collection, but I do get around to them.

No offense I could say that about every movie made in mankind, lol. You will always have something in every movie you can make a connection to in another movie. sheesh

Go watch "Dances with Wolves".

James Cameron has a habit of taking other works, adding some "bells and whistles" and getting a lot of credit (and money) out of it. Titanic was made MANY times before he came up with the original idea ... while Avatar is a high tech remake of movies such as DWW.

Hollywood has run out of original ideas ...

I don't disagree with any of that. But to penalize a movie because its not original enough is kinda dumb. The Dark Knight was awesome, but there was not one shred or orignality in the movie. We both agree, Hollywood has truly run out of original ideas. I thought the Hangover and Orphan got some marks for some new wrinkles.
 
No way, Cameron already raped me for $20 and I have no need to ever see that movie again, nor will I be seeing any of its sequels. D:

I ordered it from Amazon and Kingdom of Heaven (DC version which is supposed to be good, never seen it) for $3 off along with Minority Report, Collateral and The Protector. Five Blu-rays for only $80.45 if I recall correctly.
