You need to expand your horizons. We live/work in a global economy. Most people at my office complex work as operations support for financial markets. Those markets around the world don't close because of bad weather in one area.

i ended up coming in, and while driving to work, and seeing the backroads near work weren't plowed yet, i was wondering why. i get here and there are 2 other engineers here and some sales people.
we have a dumb policy that was changed a few years before i started working. before i was here, it was we were closed if the county schools were closed. now it's basically come in if you think you can make it in, and if we are open, you will get your hours.
but if we are closed, you get comp'ed. and if you dont come in and we are open, you have to use personal hours.
the thing is, we won't find out if we were officially closed or not until tomorrow. how dumb is that?

so what happens when you crash and die or have to go to the hospital or someone crashes into you? wouldn't they rather have you miss one day of work than be out for weeks while you recuperate in the hospital or never come back inbecause you are dead?

Like I said...we all just drive very carefully as hospital workers. We take care of the retards who think they can speed in this weather. We don't wanna be one of them. Plus I think there is slight incentive in NOT getting in a bad accident in this weather....cuz when you come in as a Trauma Code, we cut all your clothes off so yea....thats plenty enough incentive for me to NOT get in an accident

It's just a meaningless bit of information he decided to add...I guess you could draw the conclusion that he doesn't really know how to drive the car anyway since he's not driving it in to work today.

I called the manager to see if I should come in and he was at home and wasn't planning on coming in. the nature of my work is that if the roads are in bad condition, I am about 0.1% productive.
I told him if I could get a day off since there really isn't any point coming in to office today and he says fine after a pause and then says that he expects me to make it up some other day. WTH? So if i hadn't taken the day off, what the hell were you thinking I was going to do at the office?

Does that happen to you often? Because I've been driving for 20 years and can only recall catching my boot on the edge of the accelerator once while pressing the brake pedal.
Besides, tapping the gas doesn't mean 300hp is instantly going to your rear wheels...it's progressive you know.
