Lots of Mac posts these days. Time for a new forum?

It'd certainly reduce the Mac vs PC trolls/flamefests methinks.

I think it isn't needed.

Hardware:
GH
Video
etc.

Software:
Software

Mac OS X:
OS

Mac networking:
Networking

It's funny how everything fits. ;)

That reply was much better than last time.

I vote for it for two reasons.

1) We have forums for virtually every anandtech tab.. e.g. Motherboards.. cpus ..video .. cases and cooling etc, Macintosh is a tab.

2) Keep Eugs spam out of GH, OT, CPU and video forums:evil::p j/k bro

I am tempted to say " go join a site with a mac forum, like maybe the apple site?".
Then I realize that Anandtech is about computing in general, it just happens most of the stuff thats changing is x86 related.

BUT: if we made a new catergory every time somebody wanted to just reduce the number of flamewars, things would get out of hand on AT very soon.
Eventually we would want sub-catergories and exclusive membership threads.
Its probably too much work for the mods.

Then we need a Linux forum. And a DOS forum for the win98 junkies. And a BSD forum for me. And a solaris forum for Sunner. Let's make a cable forums, but don't leave out the DSLers...

But what you describe is either hardware or software; a Mac is both and doesn't fit in to either category very well. I mean, there has to be some sort of categorization, otherwise we wouldn't need any hardware forum at all besides General Hardware, and a Mac forum is a logical categorization.

Why not just an "alternative computing" category to catch all of those(including the Mac)?

I think they all fit into existing categories. :p

I'll live with whatever the mods decide.;)

And no offense to mac dudes, but I don't think it's worth it for another reason. See, if I were on a Mac, something so different, I'd go to a forum made for it. This forum is dominated by windows/nix users, so most discussion will be centered around that. There are plenty of big mac forums out there, so anything specific to that would probably get better discussion on those forums. Just a thought.

I for one would welcome a Mac forum. It would give Apple types a sense of legitimacy & place to vent, thus easing the load of flames which, as it stands, must be endured by anyone claiming the company doesn't fart Chanel #5 or that Steve Jobs isn't the second coming of Christ. In essence, it would act as a wonderful filter for the other forums, the way P&N does for OT.

Wow, you couldn't resist trolling even in FI. I'm impressed by your tenacity Gurck!

As to addressing the OP, I think it would be useful, but it isn't entirely necessary. But in other forums where it has been done (such as over at Ars), it seems to have gone over smashingly.

Apologizing to an OP for taking a thread off course by correcting your original falacious comment about quicktime (which itself started the whole tangent and was a thinly veiled attempt at a troll) is hardly a troll. You on the other hand have consistently defied all logic when it comes to anything Apple related. I find this amusing considering that the owner of this website is himself a fan of the Apple platform. Gurck, you are easily the worst troll outside of P&N. A simple search on your posts proves this.

Thanks for proving the point I made in my first reply to this thread :)

If Windows were unix-based, would that still qualify? Nope. The user interface is still different.
