So where's the 955?

At least you have a Phenom in your board~ I need to find out if my board will work satisfactorily with Phenom II before the Egg's warranty expires.. With X2 4050e installed there isn't much to see in the BIOS.

Your Gigabyte MA790X-UD4P? You'll just have to check for an updated offical/beta Bios that adds support for these AM3 chips- all the 790 boards are very capable with the P2s. For my DFI board there is a Beta Bios out now which adds 'support' for these new chips so if DFI can get one out early, I'm sure the larger manufacturers can aswell.

Yeah are we looking at possibly 200Mhz higher avg OC's? 3.8Ghz?

Probably, most preliminary tests floating around the web have them OCing to about 4ghz (even 4.2 ) on air no prob and using less voltage to do it.

i heard it operates at a lower vcore compared to the 940 version so it might OC a little better.

expect 3.8/3.9 for most cases, 4.0 or even higher with luck

I would be happy if I get 3.6GHz with little to no voltage increase. I am actually more interested in getting a high NB frequency. The AMD default (2.0GHz) seems way too low. What's an 'average' NB overclock of 940BE?

Well, without a Phenom chip BIOS doesn't reveal anything relevant and that's what I was talking about. With a 4050e, the BIOS shows only a typical set of A64 OC options. I guess I could pick up a X2 7750 for $60 just to see what it's like.. (And no, I wouldn't do that 😀 )

The 940BE default NB speed is 1.8GHz, i'm running mine @ 2.4GHz but some people are using theirs as high as 2.6GHz.

Anyway the sweet spot is 2.4

Gary Key tested his PhII 720BE IMC/NB at 2.8GHz in his CrossFire X article ...

All that required was a simple increase in CPU/NB VID from 1.200V to 1.375V with this particular CPU. Some CPUs will require additional voltage and/or improved cooling to clock up the Northbridge speed to this level. In our experiences to date with the Phenom II processors, all of our samples have hit 2.8GHz with 1.375V to 1.425V on good air-cooling.

Yes it can, all you had to was visit the website. http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Sup...el.aspx?ProductID=3038

I say 3.8~3.9 for most and 4ghz if your a lucky few. Don't even compare to 4.2ghz that was done w/ dry ice..... even up to 4.8, but its no good for 24/7 use. My wondering is whether I should be upgrading to i7 920 or PII 955. I wanna see to side by side comparison OCed.

I'd agree for the most part but from some of the few listings I've seen it looks like AMD has raised the voltage envelop to 1.5v for the 955BE.

Whether it will be good for an additional 2-400MHz on good air I guess we'll find out soon enough ....

The 4.2ghz I listed eailier was on air not dry ice and @ 1.456v pre release retail chip with the Biostar board.

Here is a list of the price cuts

OO exciting. Intel needs more pressure. WTB 9550 for cheaper.

""Be the first one to write a Review"" concerning the greatness that is AMD (to drive sales)

But don't drive the price up.

I'll give yah a nickel if you post about hammering one into your s775 mobo .... heh heh
