The 3rd gens get no love.:(

The styling is ok...but the engines in that era were mediocre at best. The L98 V8 started to recoup some of the lost power, and then after them came the 4rt gen Camaros with the new LT1 and LS1 V8s. I may be off on this fact but back then, the only engines you could get stick was the 305s...the 350s were only auto.

There was a VERY limited production of manual Camaros w/ the 350. Known as the 1LE package, you had to order a specific set of options to get it and it was not published. Only the dealers knew it was available. The chances of running across a real 1LE are rather slim.

Pretty much.

I personally have a lot of it in me, I grew up in the country. I have nothing but respect for most of the people in the surrounding community. Some of the nicest, hardest working, most honest people you'll ever meet.

Granted this was Forest Grove, OR, more of a farm community than "hick."

Viper GTS

Is that near Cottage Grove OR? That's where my g/f's family is from. As far as being a redneck is concerned I think there is going to be a reversal pretty soon.

lots of people not 'hicks' espouse racial hatred, so your anger isn't very well directed

So very true but the topic was hicks thus why I made that statement. A hick doesn't bother me. A racist hick does. If the topic was what's wrong with being a millionaire and I was surrounded by racist millionaires I would say the same thing.

Guilty of one of those things, and only slightly - yard work. But I do live in what is referred to as a hickville - lots of cows live nearby. Farmland...cows....yup, hicks. I guess. :)

3rd gen lovin' rednecks, hoist up yer PBRs! :D

As far as the list...I'm guilty of #2,3,5,11,and 12. Bonus on #5, cause I have a Trans Am already. Hunting never appealed to me, NASCAR = teh boring, unless someone wrecks, I've never liked trucks, never been exposed to "the slaughtering process" or raised an animal with the intent of killing and eating it.

Does all that make me a pseudo-hick?

It's interesting that you think you've associated yourself with them, especially since Orego is about as far away from the South as you can get. And yes, I am saying that when people think of hicks, they think of the southern belt states. I would not consider a farming community in rural Oregon (LOL) as one that would include hicks.

Those of us in Oregon mostly get that from native Californians. People in the bay area/LA/San Diego seem to consider everyone in Oregon hicks.

Funny though that I grew up in a very liberal, rather wealthy, college town (Eugene), but I've had people assume I'm a farmer since I'm from Oregon.

Being a "hick" is a mentality more than it is the activities you participate in.

My definition of a hick (sorry if it offends anyone): the drunken trailer trash you see 95% of the time on the TV show Cops. Basically a hick is someone who doesn't care about how others judge him/her and thus does very little personal maintanence (showers, shaving, nice clothes, nice possessions, etc.) Using my definition, it should be obvious why people want to avoid that situation.

What you listed is related (as many hicks do those 13 things), but those 13 things are not the cause of being a hick. Many, many yuppies do all 13 as well. Well maybe with the exception of #3.

I wouldnt make a judgement of what a hick is based off of Cops. Thats the same show that used to have [90% of the time] multiple episodes showing only black people getting chased and arrested, and then airing one white crime at the end [when people would have either tuned out or went to bed]. They changed that because the naacp started to complain saying it made black people look bad and stereotyped them, so they swapped them with poor white people and now tend to show black people or latins getting arrested at the end.

Well, the same can be said of how it portrays poor white people today, if you base your opinion of poor whites [rednecks] off of cops then your stereotyping 95% of the other ones who are civil.

1: Watching NASCAR.
I loved stock cars as a kid but that was when they were real stock cars hopped up by the teams. I still enjoy watching a NASCAR race now and then but don't do it enough to really be considered a fan.

2: Knowing how to work on your car.
I used to do this a lot more than I do now in the computerized car age.

3: Doing your own yard work.
The lawn fairy skips my house so I end up doing this.

4: Enjoying drag racing and knowing what it takes.
Again one of those things I loved as a kid.

5: Wanting a Camero.
We were a MOPAR family, does a Charger or Coronet count?

6: Owning a truck that actually gets used.
F-150 that gets used for the standard suburban stuff like hauling mulch etc.

7: Not liking a truck that can't actually be used.
:D

8: Hunting.
9: Being able to handle the slaughtering process without becoming a vegetarian.
My local grocery store handles this nasty business for me and I am more than happy to let them do it. If some type of "end of the world" thing happened where I had to hunt to eat I would have no issue with it but killing stuff for entertainment never did it for me.

10: Being able to raise an animal and be okay when it dies (often part of #9).
Dunno this one may kick me from the neck club cause it definitely hurts when one of my pets dies. I accept it as part of the package of having pets though.

11: Wanting to turn the PC off and walk away on occasions.
Rank heresy! Actually I do enjoy doing this on occasion.

12: Enjoying off road vehicles.
Never had one so can't really say. I have no problems with other folks enjoyment of them.

13: Having a sport utility that can actually be taken off road without someone worrying
Again never had one but have no issue with them.

Guess I am southern neck light.

I think a real redneck wouldn't post at an internet forum. Personally, I guess rednecks are OK. I only wish I could understand what they say because sometimes I try to listen to them when I get a chance and what they say is like 50% a foreign language, I swear! Otherwise I got nothing against them.

OK, I enjoy working on my own car, and I also own an 11 year old truck with paint peeling and 155,000 miles. I ONLY do my own yard work, and will go through hoops to make sure that I don't have to pay anyone to come out and do my work for me. This goes for my house, my cars, and anything else I'm working on.

However, I'm also a well paid engineer that lives in a nice suburb outside of a decent sized city in the midwest. No one would call me a hick. I just try to be smart with my money and not accumulate any debt that isn't absolutely necessary. (My 11 year old truck is paid for, and my wife's car is financed at 0%.)

First of all, it's "racist" and not "racial". Second, you're not even using it properly. Hicks aren't a race.
