that's bullsh!t, not just anyone can teach, i sure can't, and not everyone can be an engineer or doctor.

there are plenty of ambitious engineers and doctors. there are even teachers that are millionaires from developing teaching systems/writing books and selling them. no one is entitled to anything; in this country most wealth is earned.

Please don't include teachers in that group. Doctors and Engineers maybe. Most K-12 teachers are complete sh!t. They deserve what they make, 30k a year. Nothing more, cause they don't do crap. I agree that Katie Couric makes way more than scientists etc, but there is a reason for that. Millions of people don't watch scientists lecture. They watch tv shows, like Katie Couric's.

I find it very ironic (maybe that isn't the correct term) that countries such as India, China and others are trying to be more Westernized (mainly America and UK). They probably think how rosy things are over here, and for the most part, they are.

So you think its OK for bimbos and airheads and jocks to make millions to entertain us yet people that can move us ahead are given chicken feed?

then we got the corrupt ass incompetant government who are all criminals and conmen just waiting to get caught.. not to mention hypocrites like this latest scumball to get caught.. pass laws and prosecute people for the same crimes you are guilty of..

So you find a good babysitter thats semi-intelligent and there ya go. She doesn't even have to be THAT good of a babysitter. Just be willing to be around kids and put up with crap.

Granted, there are some good teachers. But they are few and far between.

For example. My senior year I was taking a computer graphics class. Our teacher was normally an art teacher that they shoved into CG because she knew art. She didn't know crap about computers though. Thats alright. We didn't get along with each other. So one assignment my good friend missed so I just did it for her real quick. We turned them both in. I got a D+ on mine and she got an A... on MINE. Granted they weren't the same thing, but the same person with the same skills created both... so why did I get a D+ and her an A? Simple, a stupid as$ vindictive teacher. She deserves nothing more than the 30k she makes, and maybe not even that much.

What do you suggest we pay them? And how do you suggest we go about moving to that pay scale? Just give ALL teachers a raise? Cause there are a LOT of teachers that are not worth a dime over 30k.

Pay all 30k? hell no i agree there are some very bad teachers. i have had my share of them. But i have also had some that were outstanding.

i think the reason we get so many bad teachers is because we pay so little. the people with the skills go elsewhere to get better pay.

I would love to see teachers get paid far better. But they also need to redo the whole system.

do i know how to fix it? if i did i would be makeing a LOT of money. but i do know it needs to be fixed.

We agree there, it needs to be fixed. Entirely. Not just throw more money at the problem, like the USA likes to do.

I dont know how many people here realize this or not but America is a CAPITALIST country.
The basis for our economy is greed for things we dont really need.
Money is a medium of exchange, nothing more. If it doesnt change hands constantly it has no real value.

Celebrities make money because people choose to purchase the crap they are sponsored with.
NASA Employees get payed with taxes, and despite how the OP feels about them, I dont think he really wants a 10,000% increase in taxes just so a scientist can live the good life.

Capitalism works because of greed and willingness to aquire useless crap. If the government came in and delcared a celeb would have to get payed a set salary regardless of the revenue she generates, then our whole system would be working like the USSR's. OOPS! My bad.
It didnt work!

Dude, Soviet Russia fell....

NASA Scientist = does not generate wealth, is a cost to society

Katie Couric = creates wealth, people watch her dumb show, hires producers, cameramen, makeup people, writers, reporters, all the way down to janitors so her face is on TV.

That is just so friggin Wrong.....

Scientists create new technologies which create MANY jobs for those in the business of profiting from technology. A scientists value to American society is so much more than that of a news anchor or whatever the hell Katie Couric does. If it weren't for scientists, we wouldnt have our pharmaceutical, aerospace, computer... etc etc industries that make our country the strongest economically in the world.

In addition Scientists can be teachers and share their knowledge with others.

Scientists DESERVE to be paid more based on their value to society.

What's Katie's value to society?

value to society is nice but that does not pay the bills.

value to shareholders is what counts. katie's value is high (why? i have no clue i sure wouldnt pay her even hafl that) and the value of a scientist while high is not even close.

If teachers were paid far more, the only people doing it would be the ones who could do it well. or rather the competition for the jobs would create a higher standard to which people would strive with the current setup, many unqualified people just walk into the job.

i don't think it's too hard to follow cookie cutter curriculum teacher guides. of course a "good" teacher is rare. but i still maintain anyone who can get a job in the real world can be a teacher.

Exactly. By paying that amount, you attract people that are career-driven, or driven by their findings. If you were to pay NASA scientists millions you would attract a lot of halfwit money seekers that you find across the country in law schools and medical schools.

I do agree Teachers should be paid more. Because today, teachers are fvcking retarded and I mean that. I'm smarter as a whole then most of my teachers. That is sad.

And it won't change until their salary changes. Why would someone with an actual brain become a teacher unless their also a Christian or something where its their religion that they have to live so humble. And truly intelligent people who follow such outrageous religion's are pretty rare for the same reason why intelligent teachers are.
