- Highest paid (level 15) scientist doing cutting edge research and earn 158K per year ... yet we have Katie Couric who hosts a 30-min newcast and earns 15 million a year!

- We have the cops on COPS chastising us about violence and crime yet we have the same Fox channel, during the commercial breaks, showing very graphic ads for SAINTS ROW on XBox ... enticing viewers to purchase this violent game. Hypocrisy?

- There are families in Vietnam taking loans to send their kids to learn soldering ... yet there are families in the US buying $150 sneakers for their kids ... and maxing their credit cards ... @ 15.5% APR no less ! Brain In the Drain ?

- There are kids in India who walk miles to get to a school that has no air-conditioning and yet make it to medicine and engineering ... yet we have kids in the US that view school as a social playground for dates ... and the occasional shootouts !

I can say with certainty that violent video games don't make people who would otherwise be completely passive - into murderous criminals.

And have you ever seen COPS? That show is filled with crack heads and prostitutes and people with no life. Litterally because most of them are living on the street or in a trailer. These people are the dregs of society, and they can't even begin to AFFORD an Xbox 360. So basically, the only people who would become more violent from playing a video game are the same people who can't afford the video game in the first place.

Well, when a country has so much technology, roads are paved, malls are everywhere, people are required to only specialize in one or two skills, fast food places everywhere, you are bound to have things such as this. Our wealth has played a part in people's psyche as well. People in other countries are determined to raise themselves and their countries up - many of us feel that our country is already at the top.

People in other countries are used to hardship, so working extra harder is not as hard to them as it is to us. I doubt most people in America can go to a forest and learn to survive there for a while. I doubt most Americans know anything about farming, starting a fire - you know, the basic things that people should know. I'll be honest, I don't know stuff like this either, but my excuse is that I was raised in America .

I agree that Katie Couric makes way more than scientists etc, but there is a reason for that. Millions of people don't watch scientists lecture. They watch tv shows, like Katie Couric's.

I find it very ironic (maybe that isn't the correct term) that countries such as India, China and others are trying to be more Westernized (mainly America and UK). They probably think how rosy things are over here. Once they do come here, they find out the real America. But that is true for other countries as well - you only get to find out once you get experience.

nothing wrong with living in a trailer. also those that live in them are nto dregs of society. beleive it or not there are some "trailer parks" that are very nice.

southmoor is considered a trailer park yet they are very nice. heck they are aroun $70k for a 3 bedroom. My father (has a few million in the bank) has one. its perfect for him. he is older and does not want to mow a big yard.


i just tired of people saying that they are white trash or such. while some are (thanks to cops) many are not.

Please don't include teachers in that group. Doctors and Engineers maybe. Most K-12 teachers are complete sh!t. They deserve what they make, 30k a year. Nothing more, cause they don't do crap. University teachers aren't often a whole lot better. There are some good ones, but some REALLY bad ones too. Just depends.

A professional athlete should without a doubt make more than a K-12 teacher, as its a MUCH MUCH more difficult career.

There are plenty of scientists who take risks in developing new drugs that save lives that make more money than Couric.
