I'd rather play a good game than a popular one.
It seems every game thats popular these days is utter crap.

Having said that, I am running through Return To Castle Wolfenstein again.
I think I may start Serious Sam after that.

BF2142 is and has been tons of fun ever since I got it around xmas. I don't play very consistently, but it's the type of game that I always get an itch to play every now and then.

I wasn't into online gaming when BF 1942 came out. However I have been a fan of every game in the series since BF Vietnam. Just bought BF Bad Company tonight for 360 as I don't think that will come out for PC.
Call of Duty 4 was fun and I wasted a LOT of time on that game. I am over it now and pretty bored with it... too many other games to try. That had me tied up since January. UT3 will be the next PC game I try.

Call of Duty 4 sucks balls, but it's the only FPS out right now that keeps me moderately entertained until I get fucking pissed at how simplistic it is, but yeah.

nope, i tried TF2 during the free weekends and bought cod 4 and was disappointed in both. Maybe i could like tf2 if i gave it mroe time but i doubt it.

Hoping BF heroes will be good. Still hit BF2 once in a while... miss old style fps! COD is basically like CS which i hated, hide behind walls and stuff

Nothing really engaging right now for me either. Hopefully the new Wolfenstein will have good mp. I really liked Crysis mp, but the community is terrible and the patches didn't fix any of the problems of the game. Tf2 is fun once in a while, but I can't really get into it. Sadly Battlefield Heroes and Left 4 Dead will only popularize these light shooters even more. And I don't like the slow movement and quick deaths of Cod4 either.

TF2, only b/c the server/community that hosts it kicks ass. No other server is remotely fun... so I think it's not as much the game as it is the people.

COD4 is even more nub than TF2.

I typically can't stand shelling out $50 for a brand new release, but I'd probably give twice that to have the new Wolfenstein game get released tomorrow......dynamite planted!

What's really sad is that there isn't anything around to fill the void created by the deaths of the Unreal Tournament series and the Quake III Arena games. For some ridiculous reason ID decided not to make a Quake III-2 and Epic Games killed the UT series by consolizing UT3 and then releasing the game as a buggy beta. So, if you're looking for a fast-paced online multiplayer FPS game that will have thousands of people playing it with thousands of custom maps released (like, say, with the original Unreal Touranment) with games like Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, and a vehicle game like Onslaught, along with game types created by users, you're SOL.

I don't know if it's true or not, but I've always wondered whether or not the game companies simply don't want to make a worthwhile FPS like that. The problem is that people could buy that one game and then not feel a need to purchase another game for four or five years. (There are plenty of people today who are still playing the original Unreal Touranment--released in 1999.)

Regarding COD4 and TF2 -- can people create custom content for those games -- custom maps and new game types? That's what I don't like about them. The game companies say, "You play the maps that we tell you to play." In contrast, Unreal Tournament was about freedom--the freedom to play thousands of custom maps and mods.

ID and epic say they are going to develop primarily for consoles now so hopefully some new dev will step up to the plate.

I have played very little COD4, but I know you can play custom maps and game modes. Check the option to allow mods (not sure of the phrasing) in the main menu, then the multiplayer server listing will show servers with modified content. If you join one of these, it will download the mod from the server, then join you. Very easy.

they dont hold a candle to ut or bf2 at all

I also found BF2 to be much more enjoyable, sans people TK'ing for vehicles.
I love the vehicles aspect of BF2 over some of the others and I am holding out for something that's just as fun.

TF2 is fun, but the cartoony feel gets old. I'm not saying that BF2 was anything close to realistic. I just enjoyed the maps and vehicle play better.
I may need to fire it up again.
I'm hoping BF3 will be just as fun, but better than 2142.

qft. COD4 is a complete spamfest and tf2 is just boring.

UT and BF2 are the best and will be for a long time.

My UT folder is up to 10GB of mods. I have about 8 single player campaigns and hundreds of maps and mods. You can never run out of stuff to do in that game.

if u like the bf style of fps, cod4 is pretty bad.

2142 for me right now. waiting on something, please lawed, SOMETHING to come out soon!
