so what was the "craze" when you first signed up!

So what was the main discussion when you first signed on for the forums?

When I first signed on, the craze was about the Voodoo video cards. 128meg baby....and the Soudblaster live....so many threads were posted about it.....

what about you guys? what was the craze in either forums, when you first joined?

when i first started lurking, the 1GHz AMD Thunderbirds were all the rage, when i finially registered it was the 1.2-1.4GHz T-Birds Over Clocking to 1.6-1.8GHz with the pencil trick that was the rage, i just sold the last one of thoes i had also
 
Some guy was posting about working for ATI and how amazing the pencils were there. I've posted a lot since then.

I was in #athlon at that time - and not once did we EVER have a report of a 1.8GHz TBird. And it's not like it's some bumfvck nowhere IRC channel - in the past, it played host to icons at the caliber of EnVaDoR and Unaclockr.

you coudl do 1.8 if you cooled them with nitrogen, however that rarley happened

That would be why - mainstream IRC has never accepted overclocking with obscene cooling methods.
 
When I joined it was P2 and Super Socket 7 boards and cpu's. Not much time later I witnessed the K6-3 vs P3 battles and the Epox MVP3 G-M vs the competition for the greatest SS7 board of all time (Epox MVP-G5).

Those were the good old days.
