You forgot the original location of Dick's Sporting Goods. That's why I'm currently plagued by the super fun Dick's Open right now :(. Stupid golfers causing traffic jams :|.

EDIT:

You also forgot that Rod Serling grew up in the area as well :p.

Shhhh, dude, I'm trying not to advertise this place. It's already getting too busy here.

I actually had that in my original post but I took it out because I doubt anyone cares about Dick's Sporting Goods. I totally forgot about Rod Serling though.

Wauconda holds the record for the worlds biggest snowball fight, over 3000 participants.

The Beach Scene for the movie Blues Brothers was filmed at the beach for Bangs Lake in Wauconda.

My hometown:

-Almost completely destroyed by Katrina
-Eight flags have flown there
-Used to be the Seafood Capital of the World
-Barq's Root Beer was created there
-Jessica Alba lived there
-Myrtle Erkel is from there
-It is the last home of Jefferson Davis, Beauvoir, which is a historical site
-It has several casinos

That's all I can think of.

One of the states universities-Linus Pauling graduated from.

From Wiki:

According to the federal Environmental Protection Agency report on its ?green power communities,? Corvallis buys more power from renewable resources than any other city in the nation.
Corvallis has a higher education rate per capita than any other city in the State of Oregon.
Randy Couture lives here.
Dick Fosbury lives here.
Mike Riley and Craig Robinson both coach teams here.
The maraschino was created here.
On February 18, 2008, Corvallis was named the fifth smartest city in America by Forbes Online Magazine

Some pretty cool stuff.

I think I'd like Oregon if I could find a job there.

BTW, since none of the other grammar nazi's have mentioned it yet...

Topic Title: So what things is your city famous for?

things is a plural word...so it SHOULD read:
"So what things ARE your city famous for?"

OR, "What THING is your city famous for."

I suppose the OP's title MIGHT be acceptable somewhere down south...but not in the English speaking part of the country. :p

if you were a true grammar nazi you'd never approve ending a sentence with a preposition

ZING! Got me there! :D

Nothing really big happened in the city I live in now.

However, the city where I was born/grew up was the place where John Dillinger escaped from jail using a gun made out of a bar of soap and shoe polish (they actually filmed that part of the new movie "Public Enemies" at that same jail).
